No one has kept more clean sheets in the Championship.... 09:32 - Jan 21 with 911 viewsitfcjoe

....than Christian Walton [9] this season.

And he's only started 17 games.

In those 17 starts he's conceded just 11 goals.

The Brick Wall.

He's been excellent. Very calm and composed in everything he does. Trusted with the ball at his feet. Comes for crosses. Makes excellent saves and sensible saves too (i.e. gets the ball away from danger). I think he has the highest save percentage in relation to minutes played too.

He’s improved as well in that time IMO, better with his feet, better at coming out and claiming the ball.

Funny situation with our GKs the last couple of years, he’s obviously only in because of the injury Palmer got but now it’s his spot to lose.

If we went up I’d love Walton to have the number 1 spot for the season, he will be good enough.

Oh but GET RID OF IT.

Imagine how much better it would be if it was wolfy in front of him

And get got rid of it after all those goals conceded by playing from the back

Fair play to him. But also great evidence for how assured we look defensively as a team now. That former West Brom trio look imperious as a unit now. People around me were bemoaning Furlong's passing last night but he's so good defensively. Plays that RB/RCB role excellently. O'Shea and Kipre are rocks. Not a better CB pairing in the league.

On the subject of goalkeepers.

I was very impressed with Bristol City's goalkeeper Radek Vitek. 6'6 only 22 years old on loan from united. Aside from the wonder save he made I thought his distribution was good. Could be one to keep an eye on.

I feel way more comfortable with him in net than Palmer tbh who I'm not huge fan of. Just feel all round that Walton has way more presence in net and in the box.

If we did go up I would still be wanting to sign a keeper though.

Palmer was improving though.

If we were to sign a new one we have to make it the right f’king one this time.

I love the way Furlong plays. He might not be flashy, but he's just so dominant on the ball. Every action seems to be so strong and deliberate and denies attackers the chance to get close to winning the ball off him.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I never understood the presumption that became predominant that he was not very good with his feet - he did the job excellently with us in League 1 (appreciating the lower standard). For me that has been the biggest impact, he just looks so much calmer, and at ease, playing out from the back, than Palmer. Not saying it's always brilliant, and that Palmer is awful at it, but that air of confidence is so so important for the way we play out. Of course, it was Muric's biggest downfall too.

Just needs to not take the cursed number 1 shirt - it's now 4 seasons out of last 5 that keeper who gets that shirt has ended up out of the team

He's also what you need when you let Leif run riot down the other side.

He's a great balance to that.

If we could find a Robin Roefs type like Sunderland did that would be grand.
