Fancy a stab at being their candidate in the Gorton & Denton by-election? Simply send all your personal details and a non-refundable cheque for £125.

Absolute stitch up. If they reckon they can win it, they'll already have their own hand-picked candidate. If not, it'll just be a sacrificial lamb to lend credence to the gig next time they run their 'Be an MP for just £125' scam.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

And a mere 48hrs after nominations/applications close:

They did an amazing job of sifting all the applicants, given that there's absolutely no chance that they weren't doing this in good faith.

Christ. He’s an utter nutjob. A full blown conspiracy theorist and extreme racist (very much in favour of repatriation, net zero immigration and doesn’t believe you can be British unless you’re white).

This will be an interest test. I suspect he’ll flop like other extreme wackos such as Laurence Fox, but we’ll have to see.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Yes saw him on QT.
Horrible vile person.
Should be nowhere near parliament or a parish council for that matter
Hope the voters do their homework but expect many in the cult won't

Last I checked - which I think was over 15 years ago - it cost £200 to register for the shortlist of potential candidates for the Conservative party. So I'm not sure this is all that out of the ordinary.

Goodwin used to be a decent academic back in the day, but he went from studying the cult to joining it and becoming unpleasant.

I think it’s a very poor candidate selection. He has very tenuous links to the local area and comes across extremely patronising and thin-skinned, a bit like the guy they stood in Caerphilly. I can see him really struggling when he has to step outside of his GB News bubble and deal with the media scrutiny of being a candidate in a high-profile by-election.

Oh come on, I'm sure Benters isn't that bad.

Hope Not Hate did a very good piece on him last year.

"He even sat on the government’s Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group and wrote impassioned articles for The Guardian denouncing Islamophobia and warning of the dangers of far-right politics".

Yes, it’s quite a fascinating journey he’s been on. For anyone who doesn’t know him, the Hope Not Hate’s piece Glassers linked is good background and so is this (seems to be free even though there’s messages about subscribing) https://www.prospectmagazine.c

I hadn’t drawn the parallels with the character of their Caerphilly candidate, that’s a good point. I’m hoping he’ll be a step too far for the electorate. Farage often stays just on the right side of the line in terms of what’s acceptable. This guy’s happy to be more extreme.

This one is a free hit for them, and they may have thought they would be fighting Burnham, and had no chance when they lined him up.

Which makes it look like an exercise in "Moving the Overton Window".

He will say things which will embolden and harden the views of many on the right of Farage's mob, and will force the discourse in the media, and consequently in the general public, to be "Immigration is the number one subject" at the next General Election, ground Labour doesn't want to fight on.
