What frustrates me most at the moment 21:00 - Jan 31 with 2194 views_CliveBaker_

Is we don’t seem to be learning a lot. Might sound like a dig at McKenna, maybe it is, but there’s certainly no wavering here in terms of him being the man. But what’s frustrating to me is we’re seeing exactly the same issues over and over. I don’t think Cajuste is doing anywhere near enough in the middle, Egeli is completely ineffectual on the right week in week out, and we lack any sort of clinical centre forward. None of it is new news, it’s been the same story from day 1 of the season. Despite that Akpom’s started, what, 2 games in the 9? Why? We’re still giving Egeli the minutes he’s getting on the right, why?

It doesn’t make much sense to me.

It's actually quite awkward to discuss the pitfalls of the season when in general most games we've created enough opportunities to win pretty much every fixture.

People point to where we are in the league, our run we've had, so it can't be bad

but there are many things just puzzling about the squad

I don't see what KM see's in

Cajuste starting
Taylor still being here Now the windows open
Egeli on the right
hirst
asking our defenders to be standing halfway inside the opponents half when we have the ball when we know they are looking to counter with one quick ball over the top
If mcateer has all this quality.. why on earth wasn't he even used today
where was neil?

The more i see egeli on the right it feels like it's an ashton requirement i really do, there seems to be no actual football logic for it to happen, his stats are woeful, the eye sight test doesn't change that either. For someone with such knowledge as KM this seems like a really really strange infatuation, similar to when he continued to play akpom in the 10 when it doesn;t work in our set up.

Many many things are right, but some really puzzling things too

Taylor one is easy, he's the best partner to Azor by a significant distance. I can't remember seeing Dan Neil play against us and haven't seen a great deal of him in general so I can't comment on how good he is. Gut reaction is that he's this season's Lewis Travis? But up until this point Taylor is in our best XI.

The key issue we've had all season is moving the ball quickly and playing it in front of the receiver so they don't have to wait for the ball. We're far too slow and it allows the opposition to sit in their formation and leaves us looking absolutely lost. Not helped by the fact that when that happens we have O'Shea as the player dictating play passing it side to side. We need a midfielder who can drop deep and pick out a pass to unlock a defence because we're not getting that intricate pass from the wide positions like we had with Broadhead.

The fee we paid is outrageously excessive. If you spend 18m quid on a player 18 or 45 years old then you expect an immediate return. You can't dress it up any other way.

Ashton signed this deal off. Read into that, what you will.

£18m is far from excessive, the lads played nearly 70 first team matches.

He's capped for Norway.

Do you really believe Ashton bought him without KMs approval?

Well, says more about you than those that signed him if that’s your view. When he signed. McKenna acknowledged Egeli's potential at 19, recognizing that physical development will be a key challenge in the division and emphasizing the importance of balancing patience with encouragement and opportunities for the player. He wasn’t expecting immediate returns . . .

it's interesting though

Humphreys who never really let us down in his cameos, gets loaned out to develop

Baggott develops in training as 4th cb option

egeli plays despite offering 0 on the right as he acknowledges patience and encouragement.

6 months in on playing the role you'd think you'd see a progress of the role not the opposite.

You're crazy if you don't think 18m should get you immediate returns. If you sign a player for 18m then you must be projecting you sell him for 40/50m. Never in a month of Sundays will that be the case. He's not quick enough so his ceiling is limited. I personally think the 'Dashboard' has failed.. again.

Akpom doesn't put in the work or offer the physicality that both Hirst and Azon do, he might be a better poacher/finisher though.

Egeli hasn't impressed me much at all all season. Trouble is, your other option is McAteer who clearly isn't quite right, and only recently Burns. McAteer should have come on today.

I go back to early nov and I was told he was way above Omari at the same stage, and it was so far from the truth I couldn’t be bothered to reply to the messages.

I gave him the benefit of doubt and I still do, new country, young, playing style but he does need to up his game, might be one we have to wait 2 to 3 years to see at full flow.

I saw glimpses of that he could become as a player in the future but those attributes I just dont match them with the right hand side. I know he played there at his last club but thats a vastly different level and when you look at the videos he had so much space to work with.

Cant really compared him to omari as totally different types of players. But no omari looked like a player who needed to work on a few things to go with his footwork. Egwli needs a much more in depth development programme it seems for me.

Not disagreeing but taking off burns who was getting behind for eglie come on he goes in easy to defend against or back, mcateer was the replacement today all day long wrong by McKenna,

Spot on. KM is far quicker than SWE and quite a lot quicker than WB. Keep him almost glued to the touchline, give him balls to run onto, he's not for catching. If he needs to improve his crossing a bit ( would have had 4/5 assists but for incompetent strikers ), he won't do it nailed to the subs bench, match after match.

The really frustrating thing think about how we try to counter the low block is so inflexible. We play the ball out from the back usually across and back quite slowly and deliberately. If the ball is played forward to a midfielder it is immediately played back. There were times when there was an oppertunity for a quick break but we just stop, steady the ship, let everyone get into their defensive positions and move the ball carefully around There was no turning and taking defenders on ( Jack excluded ) today until time added on. Very few diagonal balls out from the back to on running wingers/forwards. No wonder we struggle to make the best use of our squad. Of course our profligate nature in front of goal does not help either.
