| Today feels like a real crucial pivot point for ITFC 09:59 - Feb 2 with 868 views | Keno | Now Im not one given to hyperbole but today is hugely important Bring in the right player(s) and its a catalyst, a Marcus Stewart moment, firing us into the premier league, staying there and in 2 years time we could Champions League qualification and who knows by the end of decade Champion of England again and Europe and hell yeah The World Get it wrong today and well, based in the board mood we'll not get Auto's, will obviously fail in the play offs probably losing to Norwich, the team will start to break up, we'll slide down the league, the investors will pull out and we'll be back to League one No pressure then Mr Ashton!! | |

Secondly, if only there was a Marcus Stewart type attacker available. Everything about that signing was perfect. The harsh reality for some is that calibre of player just isn't available to sign today.

I saw another post bemoaning our atmosphere and impatience and stating that it's symptomatic of today's society. While that's partly right, I feel the impatience is more about knowing that this season is a MASSIVE opportunity to bounce back at the first attempt. Get it wrong and we could be stuck being top 6 hopefuls again under new management for the next few years (or worse!) Ashton, get sh*t done today.
| Today feels like a real crucial pivot point for ITFC on 10:07 - Feb 2 with 778 views | Guthrum | As I wrote in another thread, the signing of Mehmeti to play the Nunez role (and to rotate with him when both are fit) is far more important to how we play (linking defence to attack) and the energy which has brought us success than the strike rate of our Centre Forwards. I don't think it's any coincidence that the drop-off in form has coincided with the Peruvian's absence. We didn't have anyone else in the squad who could do those things to the same level. Mehmeti, from the little I've seen, might be the replacement/supplement we need - albeit he is just getting up to speed in a new team. | |

Mehmeti is a good prospect but we've been over reliant on Philogene this season, rather than spreading the goals about as we did in 23/24. We're still creating - we need someone to convert. We say we don't need a striker who scores goal but the way we play has changed. It feels like we do need more of a converter than before.

It feels a waste if we end up with 2 players who could easily be regular starters sitting on the bench when Nunez and Philogene are both fit (Mehmeti and J.Clarke) -- I wonder if we might play Nunez in his Norwich position, deeper, just in front of Matusiwa? Allowing Mehmeti to play 10; Philogene/Clark on left and Wes On the right

Being reliant upon Philogene is no different to leaning heavily upon a goalscoring CF. In any case, Jack Clarke has been sharing the burden. The issue comes when he has to drop deep into midfield to fetch the ball during attacking moves. That puts him in the wrong place to lauch weaving runs into the opposition box (same issue McGoldrick had). Plus it's not like the CFs have failed to contribute at all. Ten goals have come from men playing in the No.9 position.

It's not a waste when we're making on-the-clock tactical substitutions every game and are able to bring on equal quality at that time. Allows an extra level of intensity, knowing that energy only needs to be conserved for 60/70 or 20/30 minutes. Rugby Union teams nowadays set up with "starters" and "finishers", the latter to come on in the second half and get the win over the line. McKenna does something similar and that is where the quality-depth of our squad pays off.

with better quality now as finishers - hopefully MsKenna goes back to making his subs closer to 60 minute rather than 70 minute to really allow them time to make that impact. Of course it does also rely on having a fully fit squad as, i felt, on saturday all the subs were a downgrade, on an already less than stellar team performance

Point of order regarding being reliant on Philogene. He's not even the top scorer and only has one more assist than Clarke.
