| Our transfer windows- I said it before, and I 100% stand by it. 22:03 - Feb 2 with 1056 views | trueblue85 | Except for a few obvious gems (Philogene, Palmer, Azor, Furlong, Nunez, etc) our recent transfer windows have been painful and downright puzzling! To clarify, I’m talking about January 2025 purchases onwards… I don’t wanna hear about some obscure summer in 1994 when the club was on its @rse. Some members decided to take my previous post out of context and gave me absolute pelters. But I 100% stand by everything I said. I’m not expecting ridiculous signings. I’m not expecting us to have it all our own way, but something just feels different regarding our transfer dealings since last year. | | | | |

We have had quite a few successes , mixed with some thus stinkers. Probably no different to other clubs. The right side is perplexing though Ogbene, and Macateer I cannot explain.

Kipre, Furlong, Nunez, Matsi....none of them deserve to wear the shirt! Ashton and McKenna OUT! [Post edited 2 Feb 22:25]

Would you like Stephen Ward back? ( And no disrespect to him, had a good career) But that's where we were. And a little more recently than 1994. Mehmeti and Neil are very good signings at this level. I know you can sign Messi on the PlayStation but you can't in real life. [Post edited 2 Feb 22:13]

Of summer 2025 you’d probably agree that Nunez, Kipre, Matusiwa and Furlong look like good signings, Azon probably decent, Young and Button fairly irrelevant and Walle Egeli and McAteer probably too early to judge. Cajuste and Akpom probably the biggest disappointment performance wise but obviously a pair of good signings on paper. Mehmeti and Neil too early to judge in this window but filled gaps in the squad. That seems like a fairly decent hit rate to me? Even if you write off Walle Egeli and McAteer you’re still batting at an alright average.

We then had greaves who's been replaced by kipre, we signed johnson who;s been replaced by furlong, we signed egeli, mcateer and today tried to get another winger. Some really positive signings around them, but some rather odd ones when you think about it.

Ogbene was starting and showing good promise in the Premier League, then suffered a career-threatening injury and has been injured again since, and can't get into the Sheffield Utd team. MacAteer, I would refer you to our world-class manager, who explained in great detail on Friday what he sees in him and how he sees his development and high potential.

It's simply because I think the club has effectively been forced to do 5-6 seasons of transfers in 2-3. In part because of the ambition of the owners but mainly because if the back to back promotion to the PL. We've backed far more winners than losers in the market. Eternally childish gloryhunters always wanting MORE and thinking buying success is easy just symptomatic of what has happened to society and football. Put it this way, where were all those sounding off in disappointment when we signed Oli Hawkins? I don't remember a social media pile on then. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Mehmeti and first showing of Neil. [Post edited 2 Feb 22:33]

There have been plenty of very hefty fees paid since we went up that you could argue have not contributed close to enough when you look at the fee paid and some never really fit the system either.

Kmac has to say that about a £12m signing in the championship who has achieved less in 18 games than Wes 1 game after coming back from an ACL. Trying to take some of the pressure off. Ogbene had recovered from injury and returned to the team, looked ok for ROI, then we let him go on loan effectively writing off £8m before really being given a chance, Then add Egeli in there for £20m in the same position. It does feel very scattered gun and wasteful.

a 19-year-old, and a 24-year-old, working with a coach who has a track record of developing and creating high output (Delap, Jaden, Omari...). Glad he is backing them and taking the pressure off so they can perform. Looking forward to them helping us achieve our goal for the season. Wateful, 5 months into a new job and a completely new country. blimey.

Nobody can argue they Egeli and McAteer are decent prospects, but should we be risking what is a mammoth unfair advantage in the form of parachute payments, on future prospects when the priority should be been signing first team ready players. We spent more on our right wing this summer than 21 out of 23 other teams have spent all season.

Egeli yes one for the future. Mcateer not so much. He may play like a young raw talent but he's actually 24. He's younger than Dan Neil who has made 200 starts at this level.

We've been in a different division, each with its own challenges and most effective styles of play, for four seasons on the trot (including this one). Personnel hired for one will not necessarily suit the next.

Signing any player is a risk. They may not settle in, or get their head around the system. Might get a bad injury early on. If successful, might be enticed elsewhere after a short time. I'd look at it more that the parachute money is being used to lay the foundations for continued success, instead of all being blown on trying to pack the squad for a single attempt this season.
