It's only a game, so put up a real good fight. I'm gonna be snookering you tonight. I'm famed for my aim, so you better believe I'm right. I'm gonna be snookering you, snookering you tonight. Big Break.
Legend. Made me want to play snooker as a kid. RIP.

Wow that a shock. Wasn’t he still commentating regularly. I don’t watch snooker much, but I’m sure I’ve heard his dulcet tones in the last year or two.

The only time I ever watched snooker live was at Ipswich Corn Exchange, think it might well have been the English or UK masters, back in the ‘80,s. Steve interesting Davis was playing a session against another slow safety first player, Willie Thorne?? I think. Anyhow, there was an interval break and John Virgo took to the table with his vast array of trick shots. Amazing to see and was like a breath of fresh air after watching the actual match. He was very funny too. RIP.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Oh no!!!!
He was only commentating on the UK masters a couple of weeks ago. Such a character and a very sad loss to the world of snooker.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Very sad. A pretty decent player without ever really hitting great heights, but a genuinely warm and friendly guy, met him a couple of times and always had time for you. One of the better commentators too.

Yes ,i went to that. I seem to remember that Davis had wrapped it up in the afternoon session ,so the evening one was just an exhibition. Memory is a bit hazy so i might have got it wrong.

From memory, I think you’re spot on. The match itself was a bit on the dull side, no big breaks and really slow paced. Virgo’s impressions and tricks were great though.

Ah, wasn’t sure about interestings opponent, so thanks for clearing that up.
Just had a look on Wiki and in 1985 Davis beat Tony Knowles 9-2, which left no evening session. It was played in Ipswich for the following three years too.
