I agree with much of the sentiments directed to SJR are on here and in the media in general - somebody did post though the corporation tax INEOS pays recently and it is a staggering amount - close to £70m. On top of whatever NI contributions they make etc etc.
He is deplorable and what he said is pretty disgusting in my view - but he's not paying zero tax in the UK so to speak.
Again, to underline, that doesn't make what he said any less unacceptable IMO before I get shot to pieces on here! |

Nothing would excuse his comments but wherever you got that figure of £4bn from I would suggest is wildly overstating things.
He changed his residency in 2020 - which would mean his PERSONAL tax bill is £800m a year...noting that INEOS still pay UK corporation tax. |

Reductionist viewpoint. If INEOS did not exist, another company would be providing those products, and therefore the tax revenue.

Could have guessed it was the Guardian! No idea why I asked tbh.
There is absolutely no workings shown for how they arrived at that 4bn figure. Nor any reputable source like an accountancy firm quoted etc.
They say in the article he pays 110m uk tax pa. Those figures usually include corporation tax which we know is now 70m. So he pays, for arguments sake, 40m in personal tax.
So yes, they are correct, assuming he lives another 100 years he will indeed save 4bn in UK taxes… [Post edited 18 Feb 14:20]
