If you look at the photo above Kipre has his leg in the air. There is no need for that given the way he fell apart from the fact that he was trying to overegg the pudding. I think the best view of the incident was from behind the goal. From the referee's point of view the position was much less clear and he might have concluded it was the sort of grappling that goes on at corners the culprit for which is often difficult to determine. And the fact that Kipre was some way from getting to the ball may have reinforced this view.
At the end of the day there is, in my view, too much cheating that goes on in football and, whilst this might be an unpopular view, it makes the job of a referee doubly difficult.
But the only way to overcome this is VAR, and McKenna made clear he doesn't favour it. Nor do I or many fans because VAR cuts both ways.

From behind the goal, it's obvious. Its so "off the ball" I don't think the ref is actually looking at it when it happens. He's following the ball and the players nearer to the middle of the area.
I think if we had VAR, it's definitely given.
The way this complaint has gone on and on, its getting to "Blackburn" levels of moaning about their game being called off. Its happened. Move on.
Unless you want VAR, these are going to happen.

Refs make mistakes and are inconsistent that’s human nature. But in that passage of play there is no excuses for not awarding the penalty. He’s looking straight at it and his lack of correct decision making was just incompetence.

They weren't 'both grappling' and he wasn't 'trying to win a penalty', he was clearly fouled when trying to get on the end of the cross. To make doubly sure, the Leicester player also tripped him quite deliberately.
Personally, I have more sympathy for Rowett's point about the earlier shouts. We did go down very easily in the box several times and I wouldn't be surprised if that was in the back of the ref's mind, even if it shouldn't be.
Of more concern perhaps is that McKenna was talking about it today.
It's happened, we just have to get on with it, and we can't afford to feel sorry for ourselves.

I was going by this from Phil's contemporaneous notes of the press conference.
"Martyn Pert spoke to Kevin Friend, refereeing overseer, confirmation we should have had two penalties on Saturday.
Even out? We're going to need some good evidence for that over the next however many games. If you're not in VAR camp, can sound hypocritical, but sometimes so obvious, so was more disappointing than most. Can't afford that decision to drag on, about shifting mindset."
Anyway, maybe I just come at this issue from a different angle to many because I played rugby at school where respect for the referee is paramount, and that has always stuck with me.

It's irrelevant whether or not Kipre could get to the ball. He was bundled over. It was a clear foul. If the referee or his assistant saw it of course.
The game has gone it's history we were rubbish in the first half and lost control of the game we had enough chances to beat second from bottom leicester 5-1but we were lacking big time.

You are right, I haven't seen it from behind the goal.
We were looking for penalties, going down to easily at times, the ref is only human and that would be in his mind. As I've said before, when 22 players on the pitch are all seeking to gain every advantage (cheat), the referee is hardly the villain of the piece.

At risk of continuing this even longer, I have just found an interesting stat on Busby.
Average penalties awarded per game: 0.13. Championship average overall: 0.28-0.30. Top refs average: 0.35-0.40. (If Grok is to be believed, that is - although their analysis if the footage had it being a game we lost 0-4 to Leeds!
The analysis also included:
He absolutely saw it: The still you shared matches the exact moment (0:01-0:02 in the slow-mo replay at 1:58). His head/eyes are locked on – no obstruction, perfect angle.
Was it a penalty? PGMOL said yes (clear leg contact, reckless challenge). On replay, it looks soft but warranting a spot-kick – defender catches the man after minimal ball contact.
His explanation ("didn't see it") is undermined: This wasn't a "glancing look" or peripheral vision fail. It's indefensible based on the footage.
