Suspect the leaders of rhe Greens, Lib Dems, SNP and Plaid Cymru would have all said no.

Leaving aside the fact that the UK knew nothing of the action on day one, Blair isn't on Trump's Bored of Peace for nothing. And it's ironic that he thinks the UK should be blindly following the US when they have given up thinking that Europe is of any strategic interest to them. [Post edited 8 Mar 8:14]

“We used to rule the waves” is doing extraordinary work in that sentence, collapsing centuries of violent subjugation, resource theft and cultural erasure into something almost wistful. Almost sporty. As though Britannia was simply winning rather than systematically dismantling the self-determination of roughly a quarter of the world’s population.

Blair lecturing others about war in the middle east is like Truss telling government how to run the economy. Do they think people have literally no memory of past events at all? — Sam Freedman (@samfr.bsky.social) 2026-03-07T21:59:54.067Z

Oh, the Romans. Fascinating choice of defence. The Romans who crucified thousands along the Appian Way as a warning. The Romans who razed Carthage to rubble and salted the earth. The Romans whose entire economic model was built on slavery so absolute it makes uncomfortable reading even now. That Rome. Yes, let’s be like them. But let’s address the central claim directly. Better for whom, exactly? Better for the Lancashire mill owners who grew obscenely wealthy while Indian textile industries were deliberately destroyed? Better for the Belgian Congo, where rubber quotas were enforced by amputating the hands of children? Better for the Australian Aboriginal peoples whose population was decimated, whose children were stolen by state policy for generations, whose land was declared empty by legal fiction? “We made it better” is the oldest and most self-serving justification in the imperial playbook. Every occupying power in history has said it. Every single one. The Spanish said it in the Americas. The French said it in Algeria. It is what people say when they want the credit without the reckoning. Railways are usually the next line of argument, so let’s pre-empt it. Infrastructure built to extract resources for the coloniser’s benefit is not a gift. It is a supply chain. The truly staggering thing isn’t the original statement. It’s that in 2026, with everything that has been documented, researched and evidenced, someone can still reach for “we made things better” as though it is an argument rather than an epitaph for critical thought. Rome fell. Empires always do. What they leave behind is rarely gratitude.

Why would we support Trump ? Yes Iran has an awful regime but they are no threat to us, we assisted in dismantling their nuclear ambitions which was legitimate in my view. If Trump is going after all dictator/murdering regimes he should start bigly with China and Russia. All this is doing is making oir lives more expensive to do Israel’s dirty work, Starmers right on this.

What has he done wrong in your opinion? Refused to get us involved in an illegal gung ho war without a clear aim or justification? Or just not managing to reverse 15 years of defence cuts overnight?

Can you explain the imperative for us joining the attacks by US and Israel? Over a week later Trump and his miserable crew can’t come up with anything coherent. Trump wanted us to be like the sidekick of a bully, getting a few kicks in when the opponent is on the ground.
