Number of factors combining to make top two less likely… 06:36 - Mar 11 with 863 viewsITFC_Forever

….some of which are on us, and some not.

- Fixture congestion thanks to Blackburn, Portsmouth and probably Southampton.
- Injuries and suspension, with several of our better player now out - Philogene, Kipre, Nunez, Matusiwa.
- One of Kipre’s bookings being in the abandoned Blackburn game which meant he had an extra game to get a booking, and one on Saturday for a penalty that should have clearly been given.
- Not signing a better striker in the summer or January. A decent striker could have made all the difference in some of the games we’ve drawn / lost.
- Our ability to produce poor performances with no warning… it’s felt like a two step forward, one step back season all season, and we’ll play well and win a few, then produce a performance like the first half last night.
- Boro and Cov are achieving consistency that we can’t match.
- A proportion of our fan-base has set expectations so high they’ll never be happy due to the size of our budget for the coming seasons. There’s a difference between being disappointed / annoyed / frustrated with a result and the outright vitriol some seem to revel in giving to the players and KMc. Not constructive at all.

Exactly, aside from your last point, fans spend a fortune going to football and give up time with their families etc I think they have the right to expect better.

We can only hope our luck turns in the dreaded play offs.

But that’s football though.

We don’t have a divine right to success.

Their choice.

When you make the choice to spend money on a ticket and travel to a football match, every sane person knows there’s no guarantee of the outcome, and that anything can happen, good or bad.

"Right to expect better" - no, there are no rights to expect anything, no contract with the club or minimum level of performance gauranteed, it's sport and is unpredictable - it worked in our favour in 2023-4 up against the likes of Leeds and Southampton with their bigger squads and more money.

Just goes to show how the burden of being a promotion favourite can pull a team down, as much as the freedom of being an underdog can raise the game.

No-one makes any of the fans go to matches, spend their time and money - that's a choice and you have to take the bad with the good.

They have the right to expect better.

7 words that perfectly sum up the issue with a huge amount of fans this season.

Absolute joke of a statement 🙄

While I agree with you in part, there's an element that I get from the OP. If we aspire to be a top club, established in the PL, we need high expectations, no? Why should we just shrug our shoulders at drawing with a depleted mid-table Stoke side? It's copium to adopt that defeatist mindset, IMO.

Its not that there is a right to expect better

But you most certainly would expect a better performance. There's no rights to it but you would naturally expect a better performance than the one put on.

You kind of say it yourself though aspiration is not expectation, and have different outcomes as such.

That’s a perfect reply .

Would have expected better , is the correct phrase , I also think a lot of these moaning clowns are not even Town fans .
