Trump has threatened to nuke Iran and “finish them in an hour” and also denied all knowledge of the Tomahawk missile attack on the school in Iran.

A topic he talked about for 20 minutes straight yesterday but now has conveniently forgot about it when challenged

He also claimed Iran was a war to stop a war.

Impeachable yet?

The entire tone of the US when US soldiers have died and the number wounded is allegedly into three figures is disgusting. That's before you get into the Iran civilian deaths including 150+ kids.

"They said Sir, finish the job"

I bet not one of them said that. Stupid c##t.

Nothing to worry about here, just a massive oil tanker on fire.

I'm actually a bit worried about what this could escalate to (the war in general, not the boat).

But then we have people on here supporting this stuff because it might bring down the Iranian regime.

War brings out the very worst in people.

Let’s hope it finishes very soon, this was an ill advised endeavour that threatens all of us, let alone the terrible harm it has done to people in the region.

I’ve not seen anyone supportive, may well have missed it though. It was always going to be a sh!tshow in a region that’s a tinderbox of opposing states. As you say there’s a real danger of other states getting involved. The Gulf states have limited stocks of anti missile defences so there’s an increasing risk of them joining the conflict as they are depleted. Iran have already successfully targeted numerous civilian infrastructure like civilian airports, refineries and desalination plants (critical in that part of the world) in a number of surrounding countries. The longer it goes on the higher the risk of other nations being dragged in.

It’s difficult to see how this can be de-escalated now.

Wonder if government will soon be announcing plans for fuel rationing.

TWTD petrol was 35p a gallon or, if you like, less than 8p a litre. You could also buy a brand new Ford Cortina for less than £1,000.

I’ve not seen anyone supportive of it either. I actually have no problem with the animals that run Iran and subjugate its people being killed. But Trumps idea if riding in like Clint Eastwood and offing the bad guys the heading back to cheat on the golf course while a bright new dawn appears for the people of Iran is about as dopey and unreal as you can get.

Iran, as an aggressor state and sponsor of terrorism has a huge landmass and stockpiles of weapons. More important than that, its leadership after 47 years is multi layered and holds the people in an iron grip. The only way to get rid of them is to physically invade them and that isn’t going to happen.

Trump and the f-wits just haven’t thought this through. I know, like all stoopid leaders, Trump wants his defining war but opening this can of worms isn’t going to end well, regardless of his lies about it being nearly done.

Given Iran was going to acquire nuclear weaponry, probably still will and will use it, what’s the solution? I’ve absolutely no idea. Assassinate the leadership one after the other? Economic isolation?

I’d think that was unlikely - most of our oil is still from the North Sea (UK and Norway) and US. A good chunk of the oil passing through (or not) Hormuz is Asia bound. Will of course impact prices though.

I assume the poster was aiming his point at me (sigh).

I said as far back as January, whilst most people were silent about the slaughter on the streets of Tehran, that military action may prove to be counterproductive.

Trump's rhetoric isn't at all helpful as it gives the Mullahs an excuse to say that this isn't the Iranian people rising up but something organised by the USA. You can understand some people in a country where the internet has been cut off falling for that line but the progressive voices in this country should avoid bringing in their prejudices and support the brave Iranian people.

Where are the marches? The open letters to the Guardian? The pin badges?

Looks like by the time we wake up in the morning the US will have undertaken action against Iran. Israel will be attacked in retaliation.

Although I agree 100% with the sentiment of your post I’m not sure if this action will be of benefit to the Iranian people.

But I have been very vocal that once the action did take place that I had hoped that the regime would fall and the Iranian people could be free. I also understand why Israel would not want a regime who have called fr them to be wiped of the face of the earth to have a nuclear weapon.

Sadly, because of certain posters hatred of Trump and Israel, the ordinary Iranian citizens and the wider diaspora who did welcome the action have become an inconvenience for them.

my problem with this, and the reason i've avoided commenting very much, is that there are two irreconcilable forces and on balance i don't know what i think: one force is that the status quo isn't sustainable (the iran regime is an oppressive dictatorship which is fermenting and funding murder and instability across the region, is clearly intent on acquiring a nuclear weapon, and, even more than north korea, is mad enough to use it). iranians, the region and the world would be better off without the regime. the other force is that there is no reason to believe than bombing will achieve anything or that trump is capable of a strategy to achieve change.

so you're just left with the 'cutting the grass' strategy which we've had to date, whereby periodically the us and israel take out the most offensive elements of the regime, including the worst of the proxies and the nuclear capability, in order to prevent things getting any worse. all in all, it's not a happy place to be.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

"Certain posters hatred of Trump and Israel"

If aimed at me, you couldn't be more wrong. But then you know that...

I personally don't hate Israel, as like most countries, I believe the evil/power is in the hands of very few and that doesn't represent the people of a country at all.
Same with Iran. Same with Palestine.

Netanyahu, as with Trump, is a war criminal. Engaged in multiple illegal wars and openly targeting civilians. What's not to hate there?

Iran's supression of their people is wrong too. And it certainly isn't going to be solved by killing those who are currently suppressed, which is what Israel and the USA are doing right now.

We've called out the Iran war as illegal. Italy did the same yesterday in their parliament as have multiple other countries.
