Chelsea get essentially a slapped wrist and £10m fine for using unregistered agents, dodgy payments to avoid breaching PSR rules and illegally tapping up young players.

Hmmm, last time I tried to embed Bluesky posts it worked but instead all I can see on Chrome or Safari is a blank space at the moment.

Doesn't help make the case I wanted to for the post!

I'd imagine Everton and Forest fans will be rightly aggrieved with the outcome of this.

Add in the complete lack of transparency over the Citeh case and it stinks of the powers that be not wanting to upset the 'big clubs'

Maybe they received more lenient punishment because they self-reported themselves to the FA rather than being caught.

The cost is borne by Abramovitch's pot of money, not by the new CFC.

Ultimately the FA/ Premier League get £10m that would have gone towards rebuilding Ukraine.

It is a negotiated penalty. Wonder how much EFL wanted it to be.

It seems fairly reasonable to me, especially as it was self-reported at what would appear to be the earliest possible opportunity, and is a case of the new ownership having uncovered and reported misconduct by the previous ownership.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Everton and Forest broke the PSR regulations - even if you add in these costs they somehow were still within guidelines.

Chelsea still face another hearing relating to a further 74 charges.

Not sure what the point is of PSR if you can circumvent it the way some clubs have.

That user’s posts are only visible to people signed in, which may explain why they’re not embedding? (Maybe, I’ve no idea and don’t have an account, I just get the ‘you have to be signed in message).

Anyway, it seems a bit of a present from the PL. It’s difficult to not be cynical over how big clubs are treated compared to everyone else (see also Man C where they won’t even make a ruling). I understand that it was under previous owners, but then so are the offences for which Sheffield Wed have received this year plus another 15 points off next season. Meanwhile Chelsea just get a fine worth 2% of turnover, which in Wednesday’s case would be about £500/600k?

I know one’s governed by the PL and EFL, but you’d like to see some sort of alignment in treatment. It just looks as corrupt as fook!

PSR/FFP are a joke - like tax rules and offhoring profits, Corporations (in this case football clubs) will always have better lawyers and be one step ahead of the authorities. Chelsea and Man City have them chasing their coattails tied up by expensive lawyers. Just bin the lot of regulation, and let clubs spend based on the capital they have to hand, otherwise it’s a farce that only helps the top 6. Plenty of clubs have gone to the wall under PSR/FFP, it doesn’t offer any guarantees of good governance- just penalises those who play by the rules.

Perhaps the new owners of Sheffield Wednesday should do the same when they take over.

The money used by Chelsea under Abramovich was dirty money due to the way it was gained whilst he was in Russia.
But as we know large swathes of London are owned from dirty money and banks have allowed it to go through their hands also.
If I went to a police station and said I had murdered someone would I just get a suspended sentence as I had come forward ? Of course not.
Just another case of one rule for the big fish and one rule for another.
A trait that seems to be running nationwide in the UK.

Not sure murder and making illegal payments to football agents are really comparable.

Especially as Kieran Maguire pointed out the following on Tw@tter regarding the Everton punishment:

“A financial penalty for a club that enjoys the support of a wealthy owner is not a sufficient penalty” and that “the requirements of deterrence, vindication of compliant clubs, and the protection of the integrity of the sport demand a sporting sanction in the form of a points deduction’.

He then explains that when the current owners bought Chelsea, there was a hold back on a certain amount of funds, so the fine will just come out of that. Just because they weren't the ones that broke the rules doesn't mean there shouldn't be sufficient punishment, seeing as though they would have enjoyed success in that period at the expense of others.

If you said you’d bought a house and found a body buried in the garden, your analogy would be slightly more applicable.
