I think they have done a better job than many owners at respecting Town traditions and trying to engage locally. However they can certainly do more, for example engaging with Blue Action.

| Spot on from Palace fan... on 19:39 - Mar 16 by J2BLUE | Yep, 100%. Not sure what can be done about it. As soon as one team chases an income stream the rest follow. Maybe in 20-30 years teams will abandon their stadiums for a state of the art arena with 1000 cameras for VAR and a choice of 20 virtual seats to watch with your VR headset. Robots and AI doing 90% of jobs and the rest of us on UBI. No two games in the league kicking off at the same time as they are staggered for maximum exposure. Massive deals with Budweiser and Doritos as they look to increase sales to viewers at home. Sky introducing the Full Kit W@nker Superfan package where Tarquin from Weybridge can have a virtual ST at his favourite eight Premier League clubs with a replica shirt for all of them. Built in interactive social media because who doesn't want to see what BigJohn1992 from Aberdeen thinks of the opening 10 minutes of Arsenal vs Chelsea? 'Support both teems, hope itz draw lmfao'. Like and subscribe to the interactive match stream thread for your chance to win an NFT signed virtually by your clubs e-sports captain. |

| Spot on from Palace fan... on 11:44 - Mar 17 by The_Major | Yeah, even if you take away the fact of where it is, the World Cup is going to be a farce with 48 teams. 104 games. That's just under a fifth of a Championship season compressed into a month. I'm probably going to try and avoid it because of the whole Trump thing tbh. And what Frimmers said about FA Cup Final day is true. More often than not, these days, I don't bother with it. Since the EPL started the only teams to have won it outside the big six in 34 years are Everton under BFJ, Pompey, Wigan, Leicester, and Palace. (Granted, Spurs have never won it in that time, and obviously you couldn't consider Man City as a major player until about 2010, but you get the idea). Then there's the League Cup. Yes, you get a wider variety of winners (I'm the EPL era Leicester, Villa, Brum, Swansea, Newcastle, Boro, Blackburn), but who remembered that the final is actually this Sunday. I even had to check to see who was playing. I get that things have to move on, and no matter how much we may yearn for Entry of the Gladiators, Golden Goal times, and a Peter Phillips or Bryan Knights type on the PA, it ain't gonna happen. Sad, but true I'm afraid. |
With the P.A. thing, why can't it happen? Not every club has this juvenile shrieking. I've said it before and scarcely dare say it again, but if you want to hear it done properly, you only have to go as far as Colchester. I get that it's a much smaller crowd, but to me the principles still apply. Last Friday in the minutes before kick-off, he welcomed away fans, gave out some sad news about the death of a couple of long-term supporters, congratulated someone on passing a driving test, welcomed a couple of kids football teams attending for the first time, read out the teams for a second time, and then, just before kick-off, urged supporters to "get right behind the team".

You're right, there was a cheerleading group that performed for a couple of years around that era. I remember finding it quite awkward to watch and ended up diverting my eyes from the pitch most of the time. Then half-time finally arrived.

| Spot on from Palace fan... on 21:01 - Mar 16 by bluelagos | I'm not actually advocating removing toilets Glassers, just the club prioritising the match day atmosphere over the tourist model that you seem happy with. The fans in the 70/80s kept football alive when most of the corporate prawn munchers wouldn't have come near Portman Rd. They'll be following town long after it's no longer fashionable too. |
Someone could argue that it’s the fans of the 70/80s that made football so desperate to bring in the corporate money. Mid 80s football was flat-out due to a bunch of bell ends who couldn’t behave themselves and ended up smashing things up. Crowds were really low and stadiums were just massive urinals. In reality, football needs the young uns’ to generate a great atmosphere but football also needs the tourists and the business people for much needed revenue. Some tourist places offer cheaper tickets for locals - not really fair for those that live outside of Suffolk. But subsidising much cheaper tickets for young people should always be an option. And Blue Action should be able to seat in the middle of the NS - I probably didn’t answer any points generated in this thread do I’ll just ‘add reply’ now.

Doesn't sound like it's very organic if its taken years for the away fans to be suitably brainwashed tbf.

I was also talking about home games. Where its played before game then at FT. On tv it seems to ruin any atmosphere going.

I agree. I love the song, it's unique and it's ours but it has so much more power sung by the fans without the music. I felt exactly the same when the club took 'Singing the Blues' and started playing it. It's a synthesis of the atmosphere that isn't needed. [Post edited 18 Mar 7:48]

A few of the players probably asked him to have a drag on his fag as they were waiting for the match to restart.

Who remembers the days of Paul Cook coming out first on his own and waving to the crowd like he was some sort of entertainer. Always found that a bit embarrassing

Oh I loved Cookie, he was there at the start of our resurgence. It was just the jog and wave I didn't like. Glad he is doing well at Chesterfield and hopefully him and Dobra get promoted this season.

unfortunately, all about the "match day experience". Yes, to me, it's a load of nonsense and it's all about the football, which needs to stand on its own, and supporting your team. Getting rid of the stupid lining up for a pointless pre-match handshake & the silly flag waving would help as well.

It is still about the football. If peoples enjoyment of the sport is hindered by a bunch of kids waving flags or the teams shaking hands then that’s down to them to address and not anyone else.
