What gives will be living standards and employment rates. The latter doubly so as manic managers try to replace workers with half-arsed AI models to supposedly save money.
There will then be a house price crisis as defaults rise and people are unable to sell at the values needed to fund a new place. The government will then be forced to borrow even more money to bail out banks and other essential businesses - thus leading to cuts in public services.
There is then the risk that people will vote in a bunch of headbangers with no idea on how to run a country, but a semi-covert agenda to turn the UK into an unregulated tax haven for their wealthy and unscrupulous hedge fund mates (or "helping businesses", as they put it).
Economic hardship breeds discontent, which often does not turn out well. Peace and widespread prosperity are what drives the best outcomes for human civilisation - something too easily forgotten by greedy, selfish idiots in power (plus those advising and funding them). |  |

It's interesting that, despite continued rationing, Austerity and the Cold War, the post-1945 era was seen as a time of positive change. Looking back upon two world wars and the Great Depression from the position of the new Welfare State, rapidly improving technology (white heat and all) and developing social attitudes, combined with the reign of a new, young queen, there was a lot of optimism for the future. Which is weird because I posted a list of energy infrastructure which has been hit only for another poster to tell me it’s fake news! The problem the Gulf states have now is many are running low on anti missile stocks due to the sheer volume of drones and missiles Iran have fired off. Can expect them to continue those attacks on energy assets now with likely more success. Saudi have a huge pipeline which is being used to bypass Hormuz, so expect that to come under attack.
I think an assault on mainland Iran remains unlikely, it’s a huge country and mountainous which means it would likely end up a quagmire like Afghanistan. More likely they’ll go for Kharg island to cut off a huge portion of Iran’s oil exports. Regardless they’ve opened a real can of worms, and totally agree I can see it going on a long time (unless he gets bored and leaves it as a failed state which would also be a disaster). | | | |
