Mocked up town shirts with fake sponsors , Cobbold stand with a reform slogan, farage image over the club sbop etc or is it too serious for that?

Poll: Most enjoyable calendar year as an Ipswich supporter

This. Completely this.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, people have lost their minds. The club made an error of judgement - we didn't suddenly become a racist, fascist club overnight. And the people making the jokes know that too. It's hilarious (for them). And we'd be making all the same jokes if it had happened to another club.

Everyone needs to put on their big boy pants and laugh it off.
The club you love didn't just change its whole culture and ethos because they stupidly allowed a divisive figure to turn up for a PR stunt.

As mentioned elsewhere, Farage is *hugely* polarising.

As a white, middle-class male, his rhetoric doesn't affect you - but if you're an ethnic minority, if you're gay - hell, if you're female, then fair to say that Farage has a pretty dismissive attitude towards you.

'Everyone needs to put on their big boy pants and laugh it off' - respectfully, shut the fck up - the fact this doesn't impact you, doesn't mean it hasn't impacted others.

"No-one, honestly, believes Ipswich or its supporters are fascist FFS." - we're the only club in the country that invited them into the club to do a publicity event. Some people will see a duck, hear a duck, and assume a fascist duck. All we've said to refute this is "we invite politicians of all stripes into the club to do this" without any evidence we've ever done this before, or will in future.

Smile now during the novelty phase, but it won't be long before being told I am a fascist will become tiresome and not funny at all. And in the absence of anyone else, that's 100% on Mark Ashton. Yes I'm still angry.

Who is going to call you a fascist for supporting Ipswich? I think you need to question the people you socialise with if that's the case.

How do you know it doesn't affect me?

I've been slating Farage on here for years.

It's not the point though - I'm talking about the pisstaking by other club's supporters - and how you let it affect you. I'm not remotely laughing off fascism.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

That's not all we've said though, is it?

We've said, "The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party. Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged.”

Why are you deliberately leaving out all the above to make it look worse?

Actions speak louder.

We've said "The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party", but we only invite fascists in to do publicity events.

We've said we're "inclusive, diverse and welcoming", but we only promote a xenophobic party that scapegoats minorities.

Loud and clear. My message "To Mark" is: find some route to closure.

My point was you said, "All we've said to refute this is 'we invite politicians of all stripes into the club to do this'" when that wasn't all we've said.

We don't "only invite fascists in to do publicity events." For starters, there's no evidence we invited him ("we" being the club, officially) ...and secondly, TalkSport reported yesterday that Kemi Badenoch is also visiting.

I agree Ashton needs to do more but please stop making stuff up to make it look worse than it already is.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I think it's pretty damn essential to be able to chuckle at yourself and the memes, etc. Otherwise you just get driven to madness and despair.

Well, at least the funny and inventive ones. Idiots basically going "hurr hurr you're Nazi FC now" can do one.

"no evidence we invited him" - there's abundant evidence. Not least the second, 5pm 24/3 press release, where we admitted hosting them. Phil has said we invited their social media team in.

I don't want to see any politicians paraded around PR on their campaign tour. Period. Not Badenoch, not Starmer, and not Farage.

I think the info we are all waiting on, is who exactly was the "we" that arranged all this.

It's feasible the likes of Ashton did not know. The slow and restrained response to all the fallout suggests that parts of the backroom were blindsided. The "associate" Farage is claiming asked to see them could be anyone with close links to the club, someone with contacts to set up a visit. We seem to be sure this Nash chap was at least aware and greeted them on arrival. But he wasn't necessarily the instigator. More info required.

Was Laurie Sivell the only Town Player to actually wear a Nazi FC shirt, or were there others? I can't rememebr.

We admitted hosting them, not inviting them.
Phil's story says we didn't:

No Official Town Involvement in Farage Visit 24th Mar 2026 10:15
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage visiting Portman Road yesterday had no official involvement from the club, TWTD understands. 209

Farage says he was invited.
Neither of these are 'evidence'.

Some people on the internet are wrong Mr Smile. I can accept this. I don't have time to play "last word" with you today. I'll only refer the honourable member to my last message. Have a nice day.

The subject is horrible but this made me laugh

Very funny, especially if you can almost hear it being said in that accent.

It also highlights the utter absurdity of the situation. Some bad choices by 1-2 key people and suddenly the badge/club/shirt are all tarnished. I don't think there has been any question the reaction has been utterly hysterical.

Let me just say, again, yes it was a huge mistake. I am not happy about it. I think someone should apologise and we should never allow the club to be used again by any political party but the badge/club/fans/shirt are not suddenly tarnished. This whole thing has only been such big news because of the huge backlash from the fans (and rightfully so) but lets keep a little common sense and perspective.

Been used a million times before, as have most of them.
I've actually been pretty disappointed with most of what I have seen. I was looking for a bit of a laugh to pick me up and it's the same old tired ones from twenty-plus years ago.
The only one that raised a chuckle was the snappy response from the mimimum-wage-avoiders.
It's 2026. Where has all the creativity gone?

Fully agree. Nothing wrong with the pee taking as long as it’s light hearted. I’ve been having a good chuckle at some of the memes. It’s a nice counter to Farage’s hatred and division; you can’t let arseholes like him drag you down. He’s not worth it.
