I got told off by the club for asking whether there was any familial link between the two in a press conference. I thought it was a fair question as Mark McG was playing with a Northern Ireland squad at the time.

Yes I agree that’s fair. I’d certainly made the McGuinness connection in my own head long before this thread. Can’t have been that long after Martin had passed away either I suppose.

If only the club had been as robust in shutting down any suggestion of political affiliation this time around!

To be fair, they were wary of annoying Arsenal more than anything else. As it was, he said he wasn't related and that was that.
