I can't see how his position is tenable tbh.

He's had 2 days to come up with something and the silence suggests he's either complicit in the Reform video or inept at sorting out the mess.

Neither option is one that gives you confidence he is fit to be in position.

That said, my opinion (like yours) is worth sfa in the scheme of things. If those above him retain trust in him he will stay in post irrespective.

Edit. Written before reading the Athletic story...

Yeah, he's got to go. Inviting Farage for lunch is a resigning matter for the CEO of a club like Town but to lie about it so brazenly to fans and local media really is something else. Off you f***, Mark.

I think this latest Athletic article is going to do some serious damage. It already appears to be changing a lot of opinions on the tenability of Ashton's position.

For hosting a person your politics disagree with…ultimately that’s the outrage this forum has which is unironically as undemocratic as it come. Silence those whose views disagree with your, that is what you want.

When you take the emotion out of it, that is what you are doing.

I think if that report is true which the club has denied is true then there are some conflicts of interest which should be explained but my god, what an overreaction.

That's not it at all.

Hosting Führage, as misguided as it is, isn't a resigning matter.

It's the wall-to-wall lies from the club since the news broke, which are being disproven time after time.

The statement at the end of the most recent piece by The Athletic will most likely have been in response to "Dear Mr Ashton, we intend to publish the attached article, would you like to comment?"

Outlets of the size/reputation of The Athletic don't publish stuff like this unless they (and their lawyers) can be absolutely sure their position is watertight. Yet Ashton continues to claim it's untrue, and that the club will be making no further comment.

It's at this point that a lot of fans, myself included, appear to have decided that he's run out of chances.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

That's not it. It's also the lies that have apparently come out of the club to cover it up. The lack of accountability. The lack of visibility.

No.

Because he lied.

But also because Town are a club that has class and integrity and a club that is not of the far right. Ashton should have understood that.

We're not Chelsea and the NF.

No problem with Farage visiting and getting a picture.

Instead we've worked with him to produce campaign material.

Not really, no…

No other political party leader would have this many posts or people calling for his head… that is a guarantee.

Think it’s quite clear that people are letting there own political beliefs in the way of their actual thinking here.

What happens when Reform wins the elections in Suffolk in May? Do we all just boycott the county?

The club also deny that report…

F$5king pathetic. There would be more of a uproar if he left because of this than stayed.

Maybe read other articles and take the views there to see TWTD is not your average viewpoint on all of this.

I'm starting to feel sorry for all the numpties we now have.

I want the person in charge of this club that is the best person for the job. It should be that simple but you're all allowing politics to get in the way, which is amazing as half you lot often say things like politics and football should not mix.

He could have had lunch with him at a north Essex golf club if he wanted to meet him and have a chit chat.

However if the Athletic article is correct and NYT don't post unsourced articles, he hosted him on club property, gave him a load of swag, let him film a video and then the official line was none of this really happened, right?

And I say this as someone whos politics doesn't always exactly align with the majority on here.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

You do appreciate that international media outlets of the calibre of The Athletic/NYT don't just publish stuff like this on a whim, right?

They check their sources, seek corroboration, and make sure it's absolutely watertight. Their lawyers will have done the same.

Ashton has lied through his teeth throughout this debacle, and is clearly still doing so.
