That’s quite a jolt, esp at this time of morning, but I fear you may just have nailed it.

| What on earth was Ashton thinking when organising this? on 08:32 - Mar 27 by Dubtractor | Reflecting a but more on this, it's the gifting of the Farage 10 shirts that tips me over the edge. They were only ever going to be used to associate our club with promoting Farage, and there is a clearly political angle to it, with absolutely trashes the idea that we were apolitical. Posting this here, rather than starting another thread on the whole affair. |
Exactly this If he wants to meet Farage in his own time and away from Portman road, then i honestly wouldn't have a problem with it. But to use ITFC and our facilities in this meeting is unacceptable, and then gifting him Farage 10 shirts presumably could be counted as a political donation from the club to Reform Is his ego so big that he thinks he speaks for the people of the town now? Is he using the club to further his own network/career? Or has he just stupidly allowed his own politics to be displayed through his job? He's either naïve, malicious or stupid. I don't want someone at the helm of our club who is any of those things

I would imagine that without the ITFC brand included as a promo op Farage would have little interest in a meeting with Ashton. So Ashton has whored out our club in the interests of self promotion.

I can already picture him at a Reform rally in Ipswich before the next General election shouting "this is ouuurrr time"

I expect that whenever he tells the story of this that it will be this that he brings up. May well even have an element of truth to it really, but there are ways to go about it even if it was the main idea.

Agree that was the worst part of this whole cock up , it made the club look like they were supporting him for PM and it just got worse by the lack of a decent response from the club . The club is tarnished by the whole thing and the silence is just making it worse

Christ, he could go full Rupert Lowe. God knows what the Southampton fans think of what he’s become.
