What on earth was Ashton thinking when organising this? 18:25 - Mar 26 with 2342 viewsDubtractor

How did he not foresee how it would play out?

And what was he hoping to achieve from it?

Sorry, appreciate this is another thread on this, but I think it is a different angle.

The success he has had at ITFC has gone to his head, he thinks he is untouchable.

I don't even give him the benefit of the doubt and consider that he misread the situation now, given the lack of respect in any communication from MA and the club. Seems like a naked attempt to use the club to improve his personal connections and inflate his self importance.

He has caused reputational damage to the club and created unnecessary division among the supporters just after calling for togetherness as we approach the business end of the season.

And then doubled down.

What a moron.

His opinion of himself was always a lot more than his abilities. Any of his coffee videos show that.

He took in a lot of people, bullsh1tters do, they are very good at self promoting. But when there's nothing behind it, it's just a matter of time.

Vacuous doesn't get closer to describing him imho.

"bullsh^tters" do not achieve what he has.

Whether you like the style or not, it is really not tenable to say that there is nothing behind it. The club is transformed and he has led it.

This is something I cannot understand.

Or why nobody told him that this was an insane idea. Maybe they did and he just didn't listen.

It's just so stupid that I cannot imagine the leaps or logic required to think this was a good idea.

Ashton is a salesman.

I think on one of his interviews he admitted he's not an educated man (didn't do A levels or go to Uni etc).

He's done remarkably well to go from U21 goalkeeper to CEO, but this is probably more to do with his communication skills and ego rather than intellect.

People say that this reaction is only this strong because it is Farage, but that's the point, it was always going to get this reaction because if who he is, of how divisive he is. How on earth did Ashton not realise that?

what was he hoping to achieve from it is the bit that gets me. I've been scratching my head wondering what the perceived benefit was going to be. I'm not saying it would make it right, but lets say we're declined permission for something and he decided to hold his nose and blow some smoke up the right people to get something away, you might think 'OK, I can see the 'why'. As I say it still doesn't mean its right on balance, but the 'why' is there.

I see no 'why'. No commercial benefit, nothing. Other than massaging his own ego perhaps.

He thought that he was meeting a man of influence and probably thought that he could get a lot from that meeting. His ego probably silenced all other noise telling him that that was a bad idea.

The fact that his tongue probably said too much is a betrayal to KM.

I think I could have forgiven his misjudgement in hosting NF - even though a loathe the man and everything he stands for.

What has broken me is brazen, barefaced lies afterwards. Presumably he has lied to me and asked others to lie to me. I feel totally let down and used.

He’s done so much good and I’m sad that it’s ended like this. (Surely this is the end of him here isn’t it)

Not long after Ashton was appointed, a friend of mine who is very well connected in the football world through the FA and also Watford FC (where Ashton was CEO), told me that the guy had a very poor reputation for integrity and honesty and told me to beware!
I trust and respect this friend so I'm not entirely surprised at what's happened,

its the sheer arrogance of the man, thinking he's got the whole ITFC crowd on his side and can do no wrong. No doubt he'll come out and bang on about the things HE has achieved since being at the club and where we were when he stepped in. The arrogance of just brushing this off and his silence on the matter speaks volumes.

Reflecting a but more on this, it's the gifting of the Farage 10 shirts that tips me over the edge.

They were only ever going to be used to associate our club with promoting Farage, and there is a clearly political angle to it, with absolutely trashes the idea that we were apolitical.

Posting this here, rather than starting another thread on the whole affair.
