So, what next....? 08:48 - Mar 27 with 3946 viewsFunge

It is inconceivable that Ashton stays - he has pissed off the supporters, the internal staff, and, by accounts, sponsors and a number of the 1st team squad - or, for brevity, absolutely everyone.

He must go; I would assume that Werhun and Nash go with him.

The radio silence from the club is, I suspect, a manifestation of 'fire-fighting' - in the first instance, McK and the players - god only knows what Mehmeti makes of all this, along with many others - not to mention the fact that the Town HR team will be in full effect, according to The Athletic/ Nick Ames.

One would presume that the Americans are trying to compile some form of contingency plan; reasonable to assume that this will take a little time.

How on earth McK keeps the squad remotely focussed throughout this is anyone's guess - another layer of irritation, on top of everything else, is Ashton's sheer fcking selfishness in, once again, making all of this about him. He has always put himself first; it seems that ITFC were a (very) useful vehicle for his ego.

At least there is (a little) time before the next game; that said, the Americans need to present something pretty bloody quickly. Is it reasonable to expect some form of communication today?

What a festering mess we have here, all as a result of this dense clown's desire to self-promote himself. That Blue Action post was remarkable - they, and we all, are ITFC, not you, Ashton, you slimy little toerag.

He lives up the road and has been there. Two guys I know have done work on his office. Thr6 said they saw him there a few times. Maybe he doesn’t make it official or let people know he is going to be there because of security? If he just turns up, less chances of him getting the abuse ?

defending faage again, quelle surprise!

he is addicted to publicity; if he ever held a surgery in clacton it'd all be over his socials rather than using a football club for tawdry propaganda

The amount of bellyaching on this is ridiculous

Mark Ashton can do whatever the hell he likes on his lunchbreak the fact that it's been 'leaked' is not his fault.

people need to draw a line between Mark Ashton and ITFC - ITFC as a club have made their position clear, Mark Ashton as an individual is free to follow whatever political party he wants, that does not make it the view of ITFC and it's no-one's business but his.

My Wife works for a charity and has had alot of help and support from our local MP who is Labour, does that mean the organisation is only for the left and if Conservate / Reform voters found out she'd had lunch with this MP that she'd have to resign orthey'd start emailing her and trying to hound her out of her position no matter how well she's doing her job ?

The whole thing is ridiculous ... absolutely ridiculous

I agree with you its bloody ridiculous tbh.

They were welcomed by senior staff and treated like VIPs.

They were gifted ‘no 10’ tops by the club which feels like a club level endorsement for him becoming PM.

They were given a tour of the ground and allowed to pictures in the changing rooms and pose with those shirts.

They lied to staff who are apparently in rebellion.

Then they lied to the fans.

Then, and this is almost the worst of it for me - they released a statement telling the New York Times that their story was full of lies. but when pressed, were unable to say why. This now positions the whole club as sympathetic to MA’s actions and in the service of MA rather than the club and fans. It also makes the club seem utterly incompetent and embarassing.

The whole club has been leveraged by MA for the sake of his own ego and career. He does not have the right to do that.

It is completely outragreous.

When an MP or somebody high profile visits a club like ITFC, the club shouts it from the rooftops. They use it to highlight the Town Foundation, they talk about key local issues, and they show off our community work. It’s an 'official visit' precisely because the club is proud of it.

The club, and more pertinently Ashton, didn't mention it, promote it, or post a single photo. Why? Because they knew it was a PR disaster in the making. Farage used our dressing room as a film set for 'lols', self promotion and campaign videos.

Farage is off to the next joke on his hilarious tour, but we’re left with a club that has torched its ‘inclusive’ brand for a bit of high profile networking. No other club will be stupid enough to let this happen to them because they can see the clusterfk it leaves behind.
[Post edited 27 Mar 10:33]

Spot on.

Its what Farage does, he'll use anything and anyone for his own gain. Its his playbook, he'll happily p1ss on an historic football club if he thinks there's something in it for him, and he'll p1ss on the NHS if he ever gets into power.

Its a game to people like that, they don't care about me, or you, or anyone else but themselves. He literally laughed as he rode off looking at the dust in the rear view mirror, not giving a shit.

Ashton is culpable for all of this, its as simple as that. He holds the key and he opened the door, rolled out the red carpet and seemingly didn't have the foresight to see what a mess it would cause. Grossly negligent from him and he needs to pay the price.

You do realise there are many, many ITFC fans who are not crying over all this.

Just because the usual TWTD suspects are screaming about it, threatening to never go to football again, burn down Portman Road, etc. Doesn't mean we all feel that way.

Ok ?

Not sure why you are telling me that ?

Then write to the cub expressing that opinion, write posts on here offering the alternative view and sing songs in support MA at the ground. And those of us who disagree will do the opposite.

That's democracy and freedom of speech. We can all make our respective feelings known and the club will take a view.

What there's no point in doing is keep posting on here saying we're all idiots and should shut up and 99% of fans secretly agree with you. If they do, I'm sure they'll make their feelings clear and MA will survive.

Okay, take the food out of it. Imagine there's no food. No lunch.

There's not even a biscuit.

Do you mind if the club allows itself to be used for political campaigns and then lies about it?

Do you mind the media team helping? And the club giving free shirts? For a cheap political endorsement?

Another "Just lunch" comment. Are you missing the point on purpose?

Even if you support Reform (no idea if you do, not really the issue) you can surely see that angering players, fans, staff and sponsors is really bad for the football club especially at this point in the season.

Also, I think you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who would say that Ashton as an individual should not hold any opinions or have lunch with whomever he please. Very different to what has actually occurred though isn't it?

I’m defending myself, I couldn’t care less about Farage. I just find all this way over the top. It’s what’s wrong with society, always baying for someone blood when things go wrong nowadays. Someone always having to pay. I’m not sure when this trend or where this trend started (probably America). It’s become so prevalent in the world over recent times. It’s not so much the person in question even, although it’s a huge deal, what about family and friends ? His kids ? It’s always those that suffer the most. Does anybody stop and think about them ?
