| This The Athletic story which we’re basing a lot of this scandal on… 09:47 - Mar 27 with 1531 views | brazil1981 | How much is actually true though? For starters “The players are said to have discussed the issue at training on Tuesday”… Well several were away on International duty and I’m told the rest of the squad had been given a couple of days off! So what do you believe? [Post edited 27 Mar 9:47]

Yeah, I'd believe the Athletic over a CEO that has said absolutely nothing so far.

See no reason he would lie. As for the Athletic for them to the run the story they must be absolutely adamant what they are saying is correct or they would be in serious hot water. Not the sure the most reputable sports journalism brand in the world (TWTD aside) would be taking that risk.

Nick Ames, who is a Town fan, reported the player side of the story a couple of days before The Athletic too. There is no reason to think they are lying at all. There is every reason to think the club/Ashton are given everything we now know.

A publication like the Athletic does not publish comment without evidence or sources You do know we have a squad many of whom are not Internationals. We even played a beheind closed doors game v West Ham yesterday. You think the team weren't training for that game on the Tuesday??

All lies I tell you. It's not like Athletic and the New York Times are reputable, lawyered to the hilt, and have multiple layers of editorial oversight. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

There was a poster on X yesterday who said it was all still just social media noise, literally under the article from The Athletic. People believe what they want to believe sadly. I did ask them is Farage or Ashton lying then, given they are a big Nige fan. It went quiet...

And Phil confirmed the story too on the lunch element at least. Plus he was told there was no official club involvement.

If they are publishing falsehoods, then the club/Ashton have to insist on a retraction article or announce they are suing for libel (and win the subsequent case). Not doing so with such damaging allegations would be tacit admission there is truth in them.

Speak to any one who knows an employee of the club and they'll confirm the lunch. The Athletic is big enough to have investigative journalists based here. They will have done their digging around. Trouble is for Ashton he may have created even more of a hole for himself as people are going to do more digging. There is likley a lot more to come out rgearding Ashton relating to agents worked with, contractors etc. Pulling a stunt like ths some people won't let this go and Ashton is now a dead man walking. He's finished i think which is the only reason I can explain the silence and i think a lot more could possible come out over this whole sorry episode. [Post edited 27 Mar 10:00]

And seeing as though he has seemingly annoyed a lot of staff they will have no shortage of people who will be willing to talk about what was happening inside the club.

The Athletic are probably up there as the number 1 most reliable source you can have, when stuff is on there you can put a 99% guarantee on it. They don’t just put things out willy nilly.

Appears that Reform are equally prepared to provide their version of events. Perhaps not impressed at his trying to disown what happened.

I did enjoy Texters X discussion with Nick Ames a couple of days ago where he accused him of lying, similarly to this OP

I said from day one, Farage will have the receipts on all this which is why lying was pointless. I wouldn't be surprised if his people were the ones to co-operate with some of the journalists too when the club tried to spin the "no involvement" line.
| This The Athletic story which we’re basing a lot of this scandal on… on 10:30 - Mar 27 with 654 views | ITFCSG | As I have said in another thread, in today’s litigious world if what the Athletic and other news media published were pure poppycock then I am sure the Club would have their lawyers issue a cease and desist letter at first notice. The deafening silence means there’s some truth in these reports and that the Club has been caught with their pants down | | | |
