New EADT editorial asking for answers 16:51 - Mar 27 with 1820 viewsandyblue231

Trust with the media seems pretty broken after they were lied to. Hard to imagine those relationships going back to normal. Don't think it's going away personally.

Credit to the local media for keeping this alive, at a time when the club is evidently hoping that they can keep quiet and that it will all just go away.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

It surely needs adressing in some way by the club. Whether an apology is enough is clearly debatable but it seems that this is the very least we shoudl be expecting. Without this it could rumble on.

For those without a subscription.

Seven questions we'd like the club or Ashton himself to answer.

The Athletic claim that Ashton and Luke Werhun, the club's chief operating officer, hosted Farage for lunch as part of his visit.

We gave them a 4pm deadline to offer responses, but our request has neither been acknowledged or responded to.

So, in this public forum, we ask again. These are the seven questions we hope the club will answer, setting out the facts around the visit and putting to rest any mistruths once and for all.

1: We were initially briefed that Reform’s visit to Portman Road was neither official nor as the result of an invitation – rather, that they booked a stadium tour privately online and the club was unaware who had made the booking. Was that true?

2: It has been reported that Nigel Farage was invited to visit Portman Road by an associate of Mark Ashton. Is that correct and, if so, who was it?

3: Were the club’s owners made aware of Reform’s visit in advance?

4: Did Mark Ashton and Luke Werhun entertain Nigel Farage for lunch as reported?

5: The club initially claimed that the ‘Farage 10’ Ipswich Town shirt was purchased by Reform. It has since been reported that the club printed six ‘Farage 10’ Town shirts and gifted them to him for free. Which version of events is true?

6: Did Reform inform you of their intention to capture promotional content at the ground and was permission granted?’

7: Will Mark Ashton apologise to the Ipswich Town fans who have been upset by seeing their club used by Nigel Farage and Reform for political gain.

Going well, isn't it?

If the answers were all good then they would have just responded. That they haven't responded doesn't look good. They are currently undoing all of the great work over the last few years of rebuilding trust and bonds with the community.

I don't think putting fingers in your ears and shouting "LA LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU", is going to cut it, lads.

So much for championing "running towards adversity"

The opposite now seems to be true, for Ashton, Werhun, Nash and the Club management

Quite. The silence is deafening, and lets be honest the Athletic wouldn't have run their story unless they had pretty good evidence to support it.

To not even acknowledge the enquiry, even if only to say something like we are unable to respond in time but please bear with us as we will do xyz (once the response Phil mentions is ready), is grossly incompetent as it further damages relations with the press. Admittedly it's not the first grossly incompetent thing they've done...

The lack of acknowledgement is awful. They're treating everyone outside the club with disdain, this is Trump-esque behaviour.

I only hope that, in the event of a predictably p*ss-weak further statement, the local media will keep up the pressure on the club.

I'm amazed Andy Warren hasn't been used as a go between from the club to the EATD.

Point 2. already disclosed by the Beeb.

"Messages seen by the BBC suggest that club consultant James Pearce reached out to Farage, seemingly on behalf of Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton, to arrange a meeting. The club declined to comment.

The messages between Pearce and a party representative also show him asking to "facilitate a meeting with Nigel" and Ashton.

Reform then responded to that message, understood to have been sent over LinkedIn, and agreed to liaise over the invitation."

Not only the local media, I bet the journos at The Athletic are watching closely as well, they may have more hidden cards to unveil once a new statement from the Club is out. You never know!

That the ownership team will be meeting in person soon, and no message will go out until that time. It would make sense, as no response has come to the lunch article, which means to me that they all want to be on the same page. However, they COULD have done that over Zoom in 10 minutes. That they haven't means to me that a big meeting is coming up.

Watch the Women's match tomorrow. If the Americans are there, Ashton may not be for very long.

I fear you may be waiting some while for answer. It would appear the club has gone into full " head in the sand " mode.
