Matt Holland 22:44 - Mar 27 with 1137 viewsurbanpenguin

I would have liked to hear from Matt Holland at some point over this week, and it could have helped defuse a lot of the tension. He has a lot of gooodwill from all sides, but also is specifically on the board to represent the voice of the fans.

As he said at the moment of his appointment:
"Ultimately, players will come and go, owners will come and go, chief executives will come and go but the supporters will always be there. So for them to have a voice, and at the top level is something I think is really important.

“There has to be a two-way dialogue, ultimately we’re never going to get everything right. We’re not going to make every decision that supporters enjoy or think is right but all the decisions will be made listening to the supporters and trying to make the best decisions for this football club."

That last paragraph sounds like it came out of Ashton's mouth.

He’s busy chiselling his cheek bones and spending hours in his age-reversal pod.

They all seem to be in comms lockdown. That could be another genius idea from our former BBC genius comms guru. It’s very noticeable that they are not doing the things they have said are important to do, which leads me to conclude they only said those things because that’s what they thought people wanted to hear.

He was on life’s a pitch today. The fact he laughed and said he won’t say anything tells you he thinks like the rational folk.

Yeah, that's one read... or another is that "club employee tows club line whilst filming on club property".

Of course I know his thoughts as much as you do, which is to say, not at all.

Ashton out

I was expecting an interview with MA and KM that he usually does with them after a transfer window closes. Just the sound of silence. I've made my own mind up on that. Just maybe he's had a bit of input on tonights " apology " As for that first paragraph repeated below by MH, it's the excact same point I've made more than once on the site. The true " owners " of a football club are the generations of supporters who follow it. I wonder how much revenue ITFC has gained from supporters since it turned professional? An impossible figure to guess at, but it must be huge.

You know this to be true?

Despite his track record to show that he actually often *is* bothered?

Nonsense. He is on the Board and won’t be unilaterally commenting on stuff will he. There will be loads more comms on this, and rightly so.

It seems whatever is said by key figures at the club now it’s not enough.
Matt is a very astute and smart individual. I’m sure he’s got his opinions and views, like most of us now he just wants what’s best for the club.

Let’s be honest: it’s all f###ing PR from the club and allows old players to earn a living and raise their profile. When it comes to any actual conflict with the club: silence.

Clearly people at the club are speaking out, to The Athletic. I'd like to see someone who was wavering working under Ashton before last week, or who was thinking of leaving or retiring anyway go on the record. Would be supremely principled.

Exactly. The board will be under strict orders to make no individual comments.
