Time to Move On (at your own pace) 08:41 - Mar 28 with 3607 viewsChris_ITFC

I get it. I honestly do. I was as p*ssed, dumbstruck, astonished, offended as anyone.

But that’s the best we’re getting. He’s fronted up, climbed down and apologised. You might not like the sentiment, you might be able to rip the words apart, but that’s it now. There won’t be anymore videos, apologies, statements, resignations or sackings.

You can either meet them in the middle, start to move on, and get back to enjoying your football club again or, sadly, this will end up spoiling something that is such a big, important part of your life. Unfortunately life isn’t perfect, but don’t let this or anyone spoil ITFC for you.

Sadly for you, I don’t see the Club doing anything at all from here. The video was their line drawn.

Genuine curiosity again - why are aways any different to homes?

Income, I would expect. Still support the team, don't fund the club.

Ashton out

My view is very unlikely to change. Rather than repeat myself I'll link to a response to a similar question from yesterday:
I hope the "We want Ashton out" chant by TheMoralMajority 30 Mar 23:50
He could pay me 1 MILLION DOLLARS
https://images.amcnetworks.com/ifc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Dr.-Evil.jpg

In all honesty, the trust has been well and truly broken for me. Without a doubt he could have rescued it last week, but as he doubled down and doubled down again that window slowly inched shut.

I will never say never, it would very much depend on what he did, but if I were to be honest, I struggle to see how he could rebuild even a modicum of that trust back

I would add (as I said before) I will only respond to threads about this issue though, not start any. I think enough divisiveness has already been caused, and there are plenty of places for me to get involved.

I get that. And to be honest, I do have slight doubts that the “let’s all pull together for promotion” will even work.

If the articles are to be believed, and this has filtered through to the players and staff complaints, that place will feel very different now. It’s intangible, but it sure will subtly undermine Kieran’s ‘shared experiences’ / ‘in it together’ chemistry in the Club. That might bite us before May.

i.e. For some, it has been “put the football first”, but it might not be that easy.

I think you are being overly fair. Let's how he gets on at Norwich and if the whole thing has blown over by then. Time is a healer, Ashton is hoping.

The Norwich match will have Sky introducing coverage with that picture of Farage.

Their dressing room will reference it with a motivation of "Come on let's beat this team of racists who want to kick you and your families out of the country!"

Ashton has gifted them this. But, yeah, it's time to move on, accept his brow-beaten apology and forget it all.

Cos the club doesn't get my money.

I still support Ipswich - but a penny won't go into their hands whilst Ashton is in seat.

That's my logic.

I'm sorry. I've read all your posts. I think you are delusional and definitely not as clever as you think you are. He deserves more than you think he'll receive. He's lied to all our faces and you think, cool, let's forgive him....it's fans like you that led to ME staying for so long

A lot of people are really hurting including employees, players , locals and fans.

Fashton gave us a politicians apology and you think that's alright and encouraging us all to rally behind him. He is guilty and sent our clubs reputation down the pisser.

He's a total scumbag and he doesn't give a toss about us or as far as I'm concerned our club anymore but you think we're best served just rallying round and saying nothing.

If you actually had a look around elsewhere then you'd realise that this news has been very widespread and this is going to stick....r/championship has millions of impressions (on Reddit just in case)

There's a high chance we'll get pelters off every set of fans this season and this could affect the team who may be annoyed about it all already, this could affect our season but you want us to fanboy fashton regardless - for no reason as he DIDN'T APOLOGISE.

You think you can pull fans together? No you can't and you shouldn't as all you are doing is fashtons oily work.

By all means support the team as usual, forgive people who have shat on you and the strip but don't try and kumbaya everyone else into it.

Screw promotion - until he goes I just can't feel the same as I used to and I'm not going to pretend.

I’m not sure what I did to deserve this, but fair play for your passion.

Like my OP says, I don’t see that there’s anything left to happen (from the Club’s point of view), so that level of upset seems only likely to hurt you unfortunately. If it somehow results in “Fashton” (really?) resigning, I owe you an apology, but I don’t see that happening, and I don’t see you satisfied without it.

I mean, Sky won’t do that, and nor will Norwich. There might be some chants for a bit, but no more so than we’ll sing about jelly and ice cream when an 84 year old woman dies.

I know you weren’t replying to me, but my OP says nothing about forgetting (or forgiving, actually).

My view on this is about us as fans enjoying our football team, and not letting this ruin it - because we aren’t going to get a resignation anytime soon, and that seems a dealbreaker for many right now.

Why won't Sky do that? That image is the topical iconic image of ITFC. It is what Ashton has done to the club.

Why won't the nodge manager use it as a motivation? It's an easy gain for him to get another 1% from his players.

Time to move on to me suggests at least forgetting about it if not forgiving. I can and will move on ... when Ashton goes and not before.

Because it isn’t as big for them as it is for us. You’re rather proving that, if I can be so direct, as there is zero chance of either of those things happening.

And again, if I may say, you’re also proving what I’ve said above. If you can’t move on until Ashton resigns or is removed, this is going to spoil your joy of being a football supporter for a long while yet (sadly).

We don't need a resignation, we need him removed and to be distanced from him and any political persuasion, let alone that poison. By letting him resign or waiting to do it at the end of the season that distancing doesn't happen and you're risking the club being fundamentally tainted, just for the sake of your apathy and an easy life.

I absolutely hear you, but (in my opinion), that makes little difference to my point.

He is highly unlikely to be removed anytime soon. All credit to people for trying to make that happen, but realistically, it feels futile and likely to lead to your favourite hobby being ruined for a long time to come.

If the owners felt it warranted him being removed, they wouldn’t have let him be the face of the Club’s apology.

Tide turning? This isn’t points scoring etc, just a genuine observation that I don’t think this would’ve been the vote swing back a few days ago.

Basically the point of the OP.

Message to fans going to the game? Supporters have been brilliant, when come to the club passion hits you straight away. No one needs a rallying call from me, supporters know how important they are to us. Club has brilliant future going forward in the medium and long-term and got chances now to achieve something which has been done once in the last 25 years. I know they know that. Atmos against Millwall was outstanding and know we need to take another step this weekend.

I don't think that the owners are lacking in funding.

Lagos not spending anything at the club is a tiny, tiny drop in a massive ocean, but it is (a miniscule) something he can do without being disruptive to others, nor the team.

Let's see how it all aligns in real life when our fan base are getting it from the opposition fans and the reality hits for Ashton that his actions has brought ridicule to our club.

There could be a scenario of Ashton out too, which is going to be an on pitch distraction.

Norwich away is going to be even more a testing environment, they are already on the wind up.

They are ready for us but only because they have seen the meltdown on here , and they think it’s hilarious how some have taken up the stance that they have ,

Fuelling the fire and their loving it .
