I was privileged to watch Gordon Banks playing for Stoke here at PR against the Town , it was like trying to score against a brick wall. Two handed saves , two handed catches ( never punched unlike those days) and didn’t wear gloves!

He ripped us apart that day with his passing from the sweeper position.
Personally I think Jurgen Klinsmann in 1994 was the most complete performance. His movement off the ball and link-up play was outstanding!
I’m glad you mentioned Klinsmann. I was at PR that night. What a player, what a performance. Up there with the best I’ve personally witnessed.
I saw the holy trinity of Law Best Charlton, albeit towards the end of their effective careers and individually for their countries in Charlton and Best a little earlier. Best was something else.
I saw him play for N Ireland at Wembley when Bobby Charlton earned his 100th cap. I was very young but it feels like yesterday. When Best got the ball, a hush descended and people stood up. Presence. He scored too. The greatest player I’ve ever seen. Happy to die on that hill of privilege.
I didn’t see Cruyff. Would love to have done. Saw T Henry though. Dear me, what a player. I think that’s covered the best of the best for me. I’ve left Kenny Dalgleish out of the ramble. On the poll I voted for him. A truly exceptional player up there with the above. I was so lucky to see these people play.
As somebody who saw the great 70s/80s ITFC teams, Kevin Beattie had that aura and presence and was astonishing. But my personal favourite will always be Paul Mariner. He might not look it, but to see him actually play live was something else. He had the lot.

I saw Man U at PR near just after their glory days & was amazed at the accuracy and range of Bobby Charlton's passing. I was lucky enough to see Cruyff play against England at Wembley in 1970 & while we were disappointed that the Dutch, who hadn't quite emerged as a force, managed a well earned 0-0 draw, even my 12 year old eyes could see that Cruyff was comfortably the best player on the pitch. Honorable mention to Ryan Giggs. I hadn't seen him or Ferguson's Man U live until we got back to the PL in 2000 & whenever he got the ball he looked a threat, dipping his shoulder & threatening to move this way or that. Impossible to compare him with Best, whom I saw a few times, as the game had changed so much.

Jamal Campbell-Rice.
On the night he was better than Cruyff, Dalglish and Hoddle combined.

Jamal Campbell-Ryce somewhat bizarrely got a standing ovation from the home supporters when playing for Rotherham. We won 4-3. An odd night.
Javier Zanetti oozed class for Inter Milan.
I remember that .. but not sure when it was .. was it pre-bantz period .. whatever era it was .. it’s just reaffirms with the description how awful most of this century has been for us.

I'm glad a couple of people have said Klinsmann apart from me. It's not often I leave a game awestruck by a player from the opposition, but that night I though Klinsman was just special. Two goals and one assist don't tell the story of the performance.
The Hoddle performance as player/manager for Swindon against us in 1991 was also a different class. His long accurate passes destroyed us!
Funny enough both performances were under the lights!

That was the Spurs side managed by Ossie Ardiles that played the most attacking but defensively naive football ever. When they clicked, they clicked big time, but were too easy to expose and Ardiles was sacked 2 months later. They pretty much played with a front 5 that day , Darren Anderton Nick Barmby Teddy Sheringham Klinsmann Illie Dumitresco All internationals and the 3-1 loss flattered us, it could have been 8-1. Ossie had a purist view of how to play football and it was beautiful to see. But hopelssly naive.

April 2005, a month before we lost in the play-offs for the second year in a row, signalling the departures of Darren Bent, Kuqi, Miller etc. Sliding Doors moment.

Absolutely, Javie Zanetti. I remember on one occasion he was pinned down in possession near his own corner flag but he left two Town players floundering as he pirouetted past them, before playing an inch perfect pass.
I'm glad you and Paris blue mentioned Zanetti, as he's always been my answer to this question but I can't remember anything specifically brilliant that he did in the game. Was starting to think I was misremembering.
Best player on the pitch that night, at right back.
Also, Ruud Gullit might not have been at the peak of his powers when playing for Chelsea in the league cup at FPR (we lost on penalties I think), but he was still head and shoulders above pretty much anyone else on the pitch.
