Showing some signs of being a decent line leader again but let's be honest, he's hugely underperformed most of this season when he should have been one of the leading strikers in the division.

Going to take more than the past 2 games to win the doubters iver. Azon still has the shirt for me

That said, it's good timing for him to start hitting form!

Always good that you can never see that you post in the exact same way as the people you want to deride all the time.

Get that but it is too easily forgotten that we had lots on here wanting him gone and wanting KM gone.

JD despite double figures this season hes been nowhere near on form as our forward through the season. Enough so that he himself was aware and accepted that that will lead to thoughts in the stands and elsewhere thats an unfortunate but normal part of the game. Hes a hero as he scored the 2nd. But footballs such a small margin game he missed a sitter minutes before following a free header earlier.

What I liked about hirst recently however is hes got his forward play back. He won a fair few flicked headers too.

Today you really saw the difference when he went off. That hasnt been the case alot this season.

He's had legitimate criticism because he's not been very good for a lot of the season.

Still no need to call out fans on a day such as today.

It’s a shame he’d gone off when Azon missed his big chance otherwise he’s have likely got another.

He missed a fairly similar chance just before he scored though. Slightly harder but still a fairly easy finish.

Anyway, it's not the point, no need to be picking these fights today from the OP.

The chance he missed before his goal was woeful. The ‘boo boys’ still want him to do well but let’s face it, if he’s still here next season he won’t be getting many starts.

Great post.

Some of the abuse for Hirst has been OTT but on the whole he's been deserving of criticism for regressing this season when McKenna put his faith in him as the number 9

And now's not the time to start creating division Jasondozzell

On top of the legitimate criticism he has had abuse too.

Even on this thread someone is suggesting Azon is a better option which clearly isn't the case if Hirst is regaining his form.

The truth is that if Hirst and Azon could clinically take 70%+ of their chances we would be well clear at the top of the league. We would also do very well for them to still be our players next season if they were consistently doing that.

Ultimately we really need players as good as Hirst at what he does but who are better finishers. If that is a skill they can learn and develop all the better.

Went totally beyond legitimate criticism.

Anyway let's enjoy the win. But worth remembering the entitlement next time we have tricky patch.

If we do go up, Hirst and Azon will both have to be replaced if we’re to have any chance of staying up...that is the harsh truth of the matter. For now, it’s good to see them trying their best for the team though and we’d expect no less.

Were you calling people out for giving him pelters this season? I don’t remember.
My name and shame list of people who aren’t invited to our promotion party is long and includes plenty of people who have slagged him off.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

He did his job for us today & got his reward. I was still happy to see Philogene take the ball off him for the penalty though.
