| Fratton Park, under the lights 09:11 - Apr 15 with 1429 views | fhb1 | Result aside, if you like to see a good old fashioned ground, all supporters joining in with traditional songs, and passion from every corner, this is as good as it gets these days. I realise that they’ll be plenty of games where the atmosphere is very different but they must have enjoyed the unity last night. | | | | |
| Fratton Park, under the lights on 10:01 - Apr 15 with 1325 views | PrideOfTheEast | Yep - thought the same and all areas of the ground singing. Must be a depressing place to live though - always raining! | | | |
| Fratton Park, under the lights on 10:32 - Apr 15 with 1275 views | Broadbent23 | Portsmouth is a depressing place bar Gunwharf and the historical dockyard. Although they have tidied up the local area the ground. The area behind the Milton stand needs addressing (full of graffiti). Portsmouth is just like most seaside places; not great. | |

Over the last few years we regularly have atmospheres like that at Portman Road- this isn't the McCarthy era.
| Fratton Park, under the lights on 12:14 - Apr 15 with 1097 views | DJR | The fact that each stand is a single tier helps with the atmosphere but that was definitely the best home crowd in terms of atmosphere for quite some time. | | | |

Our fans were not at all vocal last night, even before they scored. Maybe the make-up was a bit unusual with two postponements.
| Fratton Park, under the lights on 12:17 - Apr 15 with 1076 views | pingu67 | Was about to post the same. The fans last night made an incredible amount of noise sounded a lot louder than 18,000. Without doubt, the best home support ive seen from an away game | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I disagree. I was sitting with the home fans right next to the away end and thought our fans were pretty good up until they scored. Nothing after that though.

Maybe I was just comparing it unfavourably it to Norwich, where we were constantly vocal, and I thought that might continue last night given the result we had got there. [Post edited 15 Apr 13:18]

| Fratton Park, under the lights on 14:10 - Apr 15 with 810 views | Exiled2Surrey | For some reason "the algorithm" decided today to replay to me the most famous event at Fratton Park - the Sky Sports broadcast by Chris Kamara where Jeff Stelling asks him why a player has just been sent off... "I don't know, Jeff!" Very overused in our house... | | | |

Not sure I'd totally agree with that - they were exceptional last night. I've been there quite a few times and always laughed when people cite it as being a noisy place as it had previously been pretty flat, but last night was probably the best home fan atmosphere I've experienced in many a year. We've had some great times at Portman Road over the last few years with some real spots of true delirium, like the winner against Southampton, but we rarely produce that for a sustained period like they did last night. They kept it going right through the match.

I suggest it's far easier to keep singing when you are winning. Especially against a big fish like Town and they had just come off a great result at Boro and are fighting for their survival. We should have been fighting as well and had we got an early lead would they still have been singing ?

The problem is Sarge, is we need to be singing when we START to get under the cosh, and last night, we needed to sing LONG songs to keep them quiet. What actually happened is one bloke tried to start something up, and no-one joined in. They then took the opportunity to sing for the rest of the half, and they got progressively louder as the half went on, as the players started reacting to their fans getting louder and louder. We have to do better, because if WBA are still in the mix, and Southampton are still fighting for 2nd place, we are going to hit the same kind of atmosphere at those grounds too.

| Fratton Park, under the lights on 17:30 - Apr 15 with 419 views | Meadowlark | Proper football ground. Proper supporters. great atmosphere. I love going to Pompey. They were loud and proud even when we beat them 4-0 a few seasons back and gave Chappers an ovation. We knew it was going to be tough last night and it was. Shame about the pitch of course..... | | | |
| Fratton Park, under the lights on 17:50 - Apr 15 with 359 views | bluelagos | Near me last night a towen fan looked around the ground laughing that they had no hospitality boxes anywhere...I just smiled and thought to myself "Fookin great innit" Like you say, traditional club and ground that has retained it's attachment to it's core fans, lovely to see last night, even if the football was sh1te. | |

All the more impressive given the away fans have (most?) of the Milton Rd end. The side stands were at times bouncing which was as you say, pretty noisy. Would love to see all our lower tiers returned to safe standing - am sure it would help massively with the atmosphere if we went down that route.
