hard work beats talent, when talent does not put in the hard work 17:12 - Apr 18 with 1008 viewsAljoBlue

Heard this on the tv today. As our players have pretty much failed to turn up once each month this season - this feels like the epitaph for this team if we fail to get promoted automatically or via the playoffs.

feels to me a must win vs Boro tomorrow

This explains so much, including why we have been fighting for promotion all season and slapping the champions home and away. The lack of hard work. Truly a genius level insight.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

It's genuinely Flynn Downes' go to line.

Not forgetting that following the OP’s logic, we’ve had our poor performance already, so what is there to worry about?

This is so incredibly stupid. An absolute insult to how hard the squad, management and coaches are working. Lazy bullsh1t made up on a forum.

Guess that also explains why we have only beaten one of the bottom 10 away from home this season thus far too? Depends which side of the coin you prefer to look at.

The side of the coin where we are fighting for promotion and in no way whatsoever have a mentality problem.

So whats the reason in your views for why weve struggled to beat bottom 10 clubs away from home. Based on your reply in the other thread you see no issue with the way we approach the games in regards to the football we play. The set up etc. So if all of that you believe are ok then whats the other reason for why weve struggled in those games.. is it in line with the ops thoughts or have we approached those gsmes incorrectly in regards to set up?

My post suggests we have unfortunately. Still time left to put that right.

I’m not sure which team you’ve been watching, but I’ve seen plenty of hard work and effort. And quite a bit of talent too. It’s just that sometimes we don’t quite click as a unit for some reason. It’s not through lack of effort or individual talent.

So when Portsmouth were first to virtually every ball you think we were putting as much effort in as them?

If you’ve ever played competitive sport at any level you’ll know that there are some days where, no matter how hard you’re trying, things just don’t work out as you’d want them to. The “lack of effort” narrative doesn’t really stack up, it’s just lazy criticism when things go against you. If you want to see genuine lack of effort just watch Leicester.

The stats tell a very different story to 'first to virtually every ball':

Duels won 51%
Ground duels won 54%
Aerial duels won 46%

They intercepted more and blocked more than us but we won more tackles.

None of that looks like lack of effort to me. We looked leggy after the efforts of Saturday but we definitely gave it a go.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

As it happens, yes I have played competitive sport, at what is now the National Conference level, under a fat Scottish manager who is still managing in the league.

That phrase about hard work beats talent, that is ironically being dismissed as lazy journalism by some, was his mantra. Love him or hate him, he hasn't done bad on it.

I feel like you worked too hard to try to apply that to our team.
