Southampton were 25-1 after the Norwich game. I thought they’d be closer to even money but I guess there’s basically been no money on them over the course of the season until recently.

If they were considered a close to evens shot that price would be smashed down very quickly.

| Are we still favourites? on 21:12 - Apr 19 with 1681 views | Kievthegreat | Using Opta predictions rather than bookies, we're still favourites, but down to about 60%, while Saints and Millwall are about 20% and Boro are on 3%. Before this weekend, it was 72%, 10%, 11%, 7% for Us, Saints, Millwall and Boro. Us and Southampton have the hardest run-ins, mostly because we play each other, while Boro and Millwall have the easiest. Especially now that Boro have played us. | | | |

I was thinking about it at 25s just as a consolation prize but knowing my luck Millwall would then do it and it felt like bad karma anyway to bet against us, so I’ll just moan on here instead!

I have my doubts, I think if Southampton can win to overtake us they will, it’s setting up perfectly for them to do that and almost feels written at this point. Their rotation is miles better than ours, they haven’t dropped off by changing CM for instance. If we beat Charlton I’m clinging onto the hope that will give us a lift to squeak by WBA and achieve the 6 points. In terms of Southampton, they’re so much better than with their strikers and ability to switch things around. I ultimately think that late winner yesterday will prove pivotal by 1 point and we will finish 3rd and go to Hull or Wrexham. Hope I’m wrong! [Post edited 19 Apr 21:28]

It’s just what my eyes are telling me at the moment unfortunately. Doesn’t change the fact I’ll be a nervous wreck and basically kicking every ball from afar. Let’s hope these last few games were our mini wobble we can find enough!

Very hard to price it from within one of the camps. People dismiss any positivity as straw clutching but football is crazy. I think 4 is about right for Southampton. Can they keep up this relentless pace? Will City beat them comfortably and break the spell? Will it be like buses? If they need a win at Preston people seem to think they will get it easily. Maybe, but who wants an away team promotion celebration on their pitch? Southampton will likely be evens (or near to it) to beat us. If you doubt that, think about today. Boro in poor form. Town only lost 1/21 before today at home yet Boro were 3.3 to win. So evens is short. Oh and conceding four goals didn't please Hodgson. He's not sending Bristol City to St Marys for an open game. If we then look at Millwall, they look to have favourable games for their final two. Their big challenge is Stoke. Not claiming Stoke are world beaters but they are unbeaten at home in the league in their last six league games. They have only lost 6/21 home games. Five of their six home losses have been by a single goal. I am hopeful they can get something. Then finally, our lot. It's gutting Charlton didn't hang on for the win against Wednesday as it's likely they would be safe by Wednesday. As it is, they could be all but safe. My biggest concern is that they are 6 points clear with two games left to play as their goal difference isn't much better than Oxford. So will they look to stifle us knowing it works well and grind out that point? There's so many variables. I am sure we will all spend hours staring at the league table and remaining fixtures before Millwall and Southampton play their matches Tuesday. We have to beat Charlton Then we go to West Brom who will HOPEFULLY be safe by then Win those two and it's a home game against QPR for all the marbles, and that's if we're writing off the Southampton game which would be odd really.

One game at a time. Every win helps us get there. Ultimately we just have to match what the others do. Bristol City and Stoke doing us favours would be nice but I won't hold my breath on that.

I’ll stand by I don’t think Milwall will win their last 4 games, they’ve ticked one off but I think they drop one somewhere. Southampton have got down to just two games and us now and don’t see them dropping points against Bristol or Preston so it might need to be us that stop them if we don’t win the next two.

| Are we still favourites? on 22:07 - Apr 19 with 1320 views | gainsboroughblue | I reckon so. We are still in the position that Boro, Millwall and Saints want to be in. 85 gets us up still but I really think we are going to need them as I can't see Millwall dropping points in their 3 remaining games (thank god for the goal difference) and Southampton, well, yesterday was the day for me if they were going to drop points ahead of our head to head. The margin for error is shrinking though. This time last week, we needed a PPG of 1.66 in six games. Now, we need 2.25 in four. [Post edited 19 Apr 22:08]

Our midfield looks like it’s on fumes right now, Southampton are switching it up and not dropping off very much, if at all, I think it the big difference.

That's my concern too. We've looked gassed in the second half of too many games recently. Southampton have played the same, if not, more minutes and are powering through. Momentum is playing a huge part no doubt but I do wonder why we appear so leggy. Even after that extended break around Easter time, we had a jaded look about us. Hopefully a combination 90 (or hopefully 120) minutes of chasing Rodri, Semenyo, Doku et al and maybe a bit of pressure of the head to head will be more of a leveller. A bit like Norwich since Clement arrived, they've had the element of playing with freedom and a lack of pressure. Things get very real indeed next Tuesday and it's a different game entirely. We have to do our bit though. It's no good if we repeat our Fratton Park trick at Charlton or WBA.

Between Bragg, Charles, Downes and Jander they got two top pairings. We’ve had to flog Matusiwa and it’s beginning to show.

Yep. I've a lot of time for Jack Taylor and this is no slight on him at all, but him being the best player to sit alongside him is not a good indictment on our recruitment. Yes, recruitment again.

The recruitment thing is interesting. I remember saying a few months ago if we go up it will be inspite of our summer and jan window purchases. I get why people would say thats daft as if we go up then the recruitment did a good job. But I think it can be a mix of both imo. If we go up we will still have the fact that taylor had played a big part in it which is imo a terrible position to be in. Thats not a slight on him because hes a solid player but imo hes a perfect cover cm. But the fact hes performed better than purchased cms other than azor is a shambles really. Then youve got nunez and mehmeti fighting over a position neither of them suit Akpom sitting on the bench awaiting his obligated transfer to us for us to sell him on Plus the fact our strikers have missed the most chances of the league together and somehow we felt those two were our best options with all the funds we had available. And then theres egeli who unfortunately makes us look like we have 10 men through no fault of his own. When you think of the shambles or the recruitment side of things. Its incredible we are actually still in the top 2 picture.
