Why have you said that local elections should be viewed through the lens of local issues rather than national or international then posted a poll showing Westminster voting intentions?

SB

Deary me Stokie. I was answering somebody who was claiming the Conservative vote was extinct. So I linked the latest YouGuv poll showing the Tories in second to reform and ahead of Labour and the Greens.

You seem pretty desperate to find fault in anything I post lately.

You are a very strange individual. Throwing accusations around like confetti.

How the hell is that casual racism ?

"Of course they don’t mention it they want the Muslim vote."

Suggesting Muslims don't care about the environment and so The Green Party don't talk about it.

I did have a chuckle when the Greens proposed more money for dentistry…can’t imagine where that idea came from…

My take he’s another non serious politician with simple answers to complex issues. The fact he didn’t know the windfall tax is still in place suggests he’s not one for details. Aiming for 100pc renewables whilst banning nuclear power is similarly daft. It’s not possible to build enough energy storage for renewables without huge investment and losing swathes of greenfield land (not a very green policy). Therefore we’d be reliant on the continental grid when renewables aren’t providing our full need, which would mean price fluctuations.

Nuclear has to be the base load if we want clean power, France has shown the value of it, with some of the cheapest energy prices in the West, and avoiding the horrendous inflation driven by Ukraine/Middle East.

That said he seems to have a similarly naive view of geopolitics like Corbyn, and defence - at a time when Europe is needing to defend its borders, rearm, and support a democratic ally. For that reason I’m out. I’d say I’m probably at the vote independent candidates right now, Starmer has veered well away from his manifesto (locking up protesters, compulsory ID, and the feeling he’s generally making it up as he goes along).

Cheers for the attempt to drag me into this champ. I’m fine watching you boys from the sidelines though, thanks very much.

Hope the ibuprofen have kicked in for you this morning.

Im training for a half marathon next month so not drinking until then. But nice dig all the same.

I’m actually off for a leisurely 10k now to eat into the hours waiting for the match today. I’ll leave you to the strenuous exercise of pressing the down arrow button. Enjoy mate.

It is hilarious, but also worry and very telling about why we’ve seen the rise of the far right, because they’ll believe anything without any actual knowledge of it. If you can describe a party’s policies as insane and then not be able to back that statement up in any way, shape or form then yes, it does come down to knowledge and intelligence. The problem is, being called out on that clearly hasn’t made you question your knowledge and dig into why you’re actually angry at the left, instead you’ve just resorted to further nonsensical gibberish with no substance behind it.

Thanks for the personal review, how you've achieved it is impressive as you know absolutely nothing about me. (apart from a few posts on a football/left leaning message board).

Anyway theres something happening in a few hours that's way more important than this political nonsense.

Up the towen.

It's interesting that after reading that Wavers, I could just as easily swap Green with Reform.
Sadly, your last line may not apply though. I fear basic common sense may not prevail in that case.
It's healthy to examine and pick apart the various parties manifestos, but I see more of what is bad about X party than what is good about Reform and their manifesto.
Do Reform have good policies? If so, what are they?
If they don't, are people just planning to vote for them because they're the least bad?
Anyway. Uppa Towen.

Edit: The Reform questions are general and not aimed at you specifically. I have no idea of your voting intentions. Just generally curious what sets Reform above all others in the eyes of some.
[Post edited 2 May 9:02]

Are there even full up to date manifestos published this far away from a GE?

Even if so, they aren't the full picture are they? Just another form of election propaganda with a few policy promises thrown in which they may or may not stick to in power.

For example I bet there's little in the way of overt racism or fascism in the Reform manifesto, but you've still taken a look at the party and it's leaders and made your mind up on that haven't you?

Nobody in their right mind.

The Greens used to be a well intentioned (if a little naive) environmental movement. A bit eccentric but harmless. Cuddly even.

Now they’ve absorbed (been hijacked by?) all the Corbynite outcasts that were too extreme for Starmers’ Labour. So now it’s full of commie cranks, rainbow haired weirdos and Jihadists.

I see expensive village/country cottages with Green signage outside and can only laugh. They’ll only have themselves to blame when their car is outlawed and home nationalised to house refugees.

Absolutely spot on. Every time I drive past one of these posters, I’m grimace inwardly, wondering at what naivety would persuade people like this to vote for that

You can’t even name one! ONE! There’s not a single thing there that you can point to that you think anyone would believe to be insane. The ‘I’m not playing your little game’ is a classic get out for people who have zero knowledge of what they’re talking about. You’ll chuck out statements like that but have no way of backing it up. It’s honestly hilarious

Its rank populism. The mirror image if Reform, and just as odious

Regardless of their policy, you seem to be suggesting that the economic model which has laden most of the Western world with debt approaching or surpassing their GDP has been a huge success.

Well , yes.
I don't really understand your point here Baxter, as that's exactly what I've done and for my own political leanings, I don't like what I see at all. Others will like it.
Isn't that what we all do?

If you want my honest opinion, which you might not, I think your posting lately is almost always looking to cause an argument and that you've set yourself up as the arbiter of what is and isn't allowed on the forum.

With regards to the chart, you know that voting intention at Westminster in the middle of term always swings away from the party in power and I would argue that local election voting doesn't mirror Westminster voting and we are clearly discussing the local elections.

Just think you're saying one thing and then doing another (national issues don't apply etc).

Anyway, you'll likely disagree with that which is your right and hopefully we can debate civilly on matters but for the rest of the day they're are more important things afoot.

Being in charge of an economy requires an understanding of how it operates. Fundamental. Extolling MMT as a serious option is unserious policy. The guy is a populist. And he’s very dangerous imho. He seems to be fooling people like you into thinking this party is a serious option. Fanning the flames of those who feel Oppressed by not being able to operate in our current societal set up. Classic tactics. Dangerous times

What is? I’ll ask the same, which of their policies are ‘nuts’? Please name them for me because I just don’t see it

They may have ditched it now, but their previous leader's stated intention to ban barbed wire in the countryside really put me off - because whilst it's a lovely idea, it showed that they have little to no no idea of how the rural and farming economies work* - which I'd have thought a basic requirement for a party purporting to care about our countryside and environment. UK farmers are already struggling to make sufficient income to support themselves/their families.

The devil's in the detail. The Greens need to bother to do proper research if they want to run the country, not just come out with beautiful ideals.

*A1 overview - "Barbed wire is among the most cost-effective fencing options in the UK, with material costs typically ranging from £3 to £3.50 per metre. It is significantly cheaper than livestock netting (£4–£9/m), wooden post-and-rail (£10–£20+/m), or security mesh, providing a high-strength, low-cost solution often used on top of other fences"

Where have I said I agree with MMT? Bit outrageous to say "fooling people like you" when I've not commented on it and you know absolutely nothing about me New Poster.

It's also interesting that you seemingly have joined the forum just to post on this thread. All your posting history is exclusively in this thread.

"Fanning the flames of those who feel Oppressed by not being able to operate in our current societal set up"

Wow. If you are feeling oppressed or you don't like the way the country is being run or the political options available then it's because you're unable to operate in the current social setup.

That's a pretty horrible stance and quite telling.
