| Liam Delap 20:43 - May 5 with 7948 views | ITFC_Essex | I am sure this one will get done to death over the summer, but the (sad) Chelsea supporting lot at work say that he's as good as back at Ipswich and it will all come out in the wash. Apparently Delap has as good as made it clear on socials? I haven't seen that. Anyhow, they are happy to see rid of him as they think he is a donkey. I am sure he will be linked with us, but he will go to Everton or Newcastle instead, surely? | |

I wouldn't think so given that Manc City already had a load of conditions on us when we sold (% and first refusal?) so we might have had to sacrifice a buyback to get the deal with Chelsea to work?

| Liam Delap on 21:01 - May 5 with 4761 views | Stenvict | We're in a fairly fortunate position as every Chelsea fan wants him gone, every Ipswich fan wants him here, and most PL teams probably aren't keen on him because of how he's been this season. McKenna knows how to get the best out of him, and he'll be more effective for a team like Ipswich. | |

His best game for us in my opinion was the victory at Bournemouth when he played like a proper centre forward working for and with his team. Many of his impressive moments in other games were just head down and take them all on which surprised many opponents but they soon cotton on and this season especially with a team like Chelsea trying to pass the ball to death he just doesn't get those moments. I'm sur KM would be happy to have him but hes got to develop his game more. [Post edited 5 May 21:13]

Man City had no influence on the sale to Chelsea or conditions contained therein.

I thought they took a big % of the sale (as was their right to?)

They took a % of the profit, but they had no say in who we could sell to, at what price other conditions.

I think I wasn't entirely clear by what I meant as such, but from the Chelsea end, knowing they were given a % of the fee to a rival and knowing we had to sell, I figure they aren't likely to have offered us (or been interested in giving us) a buyback, just as there were already so many working parts to the transfer anyway. We also just needed to conclude the transfer as quickly as possible so we could move on to our targets and have an idea of what we had to spend. Maybe I am wrong, but I am doubtful any buyback exists. We'd probably have to pay a significant fee to get him back here in any case.

No thanks if he ‘plays’ like he did the other day! Didn’t get a sniff of the ball and ran around like a headless chicken. [Post edited 5 May 21:52]

| Liam Delap on 21:27 - May 5 with 4306 views | redrickstuhaart | This may be sacriligous, but I am not convinced. His main trick this season continues to be ploughing into people after the ball has gone and then doing that silly grin. If he hasn't worked out how to play with a team yet, I am not sure we want him. | |

Was that Delap or was that just the Chelsea of the past few months? I am not sure you can single out Delap for that, yes he had a bad game, but what were Chelsea doing overall? Crud.

I'm not interested in him coming back.
| Liam Delap on 22:03 - May 5 with 3966 views | jas0999 | We need better. Time to look forwards not back. Since the January in the relegation season, he just huffed puffed and acted like a battering ram. Must do better. | | | |
| Liam Delap on 22:08 - May 5 with 3911 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s inevitable we will fixate on someone who was here even if there could well be better options. It’ll work itself out. If he comes back, fine. But if he doesn’t then we know there will be options just as good, just that they’re harder to find. Marcus Stewart was better individually and better at working with the team, for example. | |

You really think we can do better? He wasn’t that bad for us. Far from it … a lot of PL clubs wanted him and he’d have gone for more than whatever it was he did go for if he hadn’t had a release clause in his contract.

We're a lot interested because of his price though. If he didn't have that clause and we wanted say £50m for him, I'm not sure too many woykd have been after him. Having said that, I'd like him to come back. I can't see it happening but we'll see.

I repeat, his performance at Bournemouth is what he needs to develop not the take rm all on attitude. He meshed really well with Broady in particular and it was no coincidence that they were the two scorers in a magnificent team performance.

You are right Jacko. He was dreadful. Lumbered around looking barely interested. What I liked when he was with us was his forward facing aggression. He’s a big lad and physicality was a major attribute. The other day, his markers could have done with deckchairs, shades and a 99 for all the use he was. He’s still not learned to play with and bring into the game team members either. I doubt Everton or the like will want him unless it’s a loan. Ourselves? It depends on him and how McKenna would want to use him. I’d take him on loan if he wanted to be here and KM wanted him and was staying himself, but I haven’t forgotten he couldn’t get away fast enough (don’t blame him. If a top club calls, you go). It’s an interesting one, especially as he is still young.

Agreed, no-one knows what McKenna will want vs what he can get vs what he doesn't want, so it's all massive speculation that'll keep us going round and round for the next two to three months! Personally I'd love to have him back and I think he's a lot better than has shown at Chelsea, I mean has anyone really ended up looking great for Chelsea this season
| Liam Delap on 22:17 - May 5 with 3790 views | davblue | Dunno. I’m not sold on it. Think there’s raw potential there but I’m not sure he will ever fulfil it, he’s just got too much rawness in his game to have it fully refined. Felt like after Xmas he struggled, as the team did of course and didn’t do too much. I do wonder if he will be one of those players that had a good 3 months gets found out and then clubs will Continue to buy him in the hope he can rekindle that goalscoring form he showed for us. | | | |
