I find it weird how Delap is now considered a bad signing for a promoted club.

Depends what delap we get isnt it

Delap prior Chelsea game. All over it

Delap after Chelsea game.. no thanks

Felt like we watched two different strikers that season

We didn't though. The whole team just completely dropped in form. Delap still had some good games post Xmas and still scored 6 goals for us.

The 2nd half of that season was just such a slog and the team were basically down by March and it showed.

Dunno..just felt like he was getting through games like he has been for Chelsea this season.

Id like to bring him back. But we would need another too.

OK as back but no experience of top level football a gamble we can only take if we get a striker in front of him who don't miss many games.

Neither had Delap tbf. Delap was further down the line in his development though.

Lankshear is very rough around the edges.

I'm not convinced that Parrott would be able to do it consistently in the Premier League, as our main centre forward. The problem is that he would now cost what a top PL centre forward would cost us.
He could be decent & has certainly scored some decent goals for Ireland in important games recently, on top of his numbers at AZ, but it would be a huge gamble on someone who is still largely unproven at the highest level.
If we were going to go with an Irish forward, I would far prefer Evan Ferguson, who wouldn't cost any more then Parrott at this stage, probably £25m - £30m, but who has absolutely proven himself as a serious talent at PL level, and has pretty much the exact profile that KMcK wants in a centre forward. Of course his injury record is the big concern there, so a Broja-like stress tested medical would be a priority, but he could easily have the impact in front of goal that Delap had here last time, plus I believe he would be a far better focal point link with the 2 or 3 forwards behind him than Delap ever was.
I would like Lankshear as well, initially as our number striker 3 option, but with potential to come in & score some important goals.

Poll: If we go up, which new striker would you like us to sign?

Town and Cov apparently interested in troy parrott on 08:08 - May 9 with 753 viewsPioneerBlue

I know what everyone wants but to set expectations at a realistic level. Im not sold on the idea that its easy for a club like ITFC to go and acquire a top level striker off the shelf, we are still going to be near favourites for relegation despite how we hope things go. Last time we relied on a returning Hirst and an unknown breaking talent in Delap.

Most likely imo at this moment in time is:

we resign Azon
We retain Hirst
We buy / loan a new experienced striker

New striker x 1 (buy or loan)
Hirsty
Azon
Akpom (admittedly this might end in a loan off our books)

Yep, recommended him as one to watch about a month back along with Nathan De Cat at Anderlecht (who coincidentally then made his first appearance for the Belgium men's team).

Ferguson has also proven over the last 5 yrs he can't mange 20 games a season so I'm not in favour.

I think we’ll be in for Agyemang. After the Derby game there was one or two players (Leif being one, iirc) having a little word in his ear.
Delap (on loan), Agyemang and Hirst is my bet.

Old enough to have seen my team win a final at Wembley, but not lucky enough to witness the great Sir Bobby era.

Don't see we'd get much better tbh, anyone proven is likely out of our reach. Except maybe Callum Wilson if he doesn't have better offers.

Ditto Delap - obviously question marks but anyone without them won't be signing for a newly promoted club

I wouldn't risk it, was in the pub a few months ago and the whole pub was screaming that Troy Parrot was on fire. Sounds a tad risky

Greek lad was a bit of a unit, if I remember? And we're definitely going to need more physicality. Could well be on the cards, we don't tend to let go of targets once we've identified them

That could be interesting but AZ might want a hefty fee. I certainly would prefer Parrott over a Delap return.

Delap is miles ahead of any other striker we have in the building, he would be a superb re signing.

Not sure about Parrot the player or the bird, my cousin had one and it bit me.

Anyway....

The fact is if we want to stay in the league we need to be spending 20-30m or whatever it takes to persuade a top striker to come to the club that can score 15+ goals. If we cannot do this, then we are kidding ourselves we are going to be able to compete, we will just go down again and it will become a bit on a non event getting promoted or relegated.

Delap got 12 and pretty much gave up at Christmas, so yes, he would be a good signing based on those stats.

Ioannidis. He's at Sporting. He's been playing, but I'm not sure how well. He seems to be getting a few goals and has had a few CL appearance as well. I doesn't sound like he's pushed on much, so maybe he'd be a similar price to last time.
