| Ashton under investigation from FA on 10:59 - May 8 by FrimleyBlue | Thing is. Whether he likes it or not. There will be players who think about the whole picture of a club before joining it. They will have their own principles. We are going shopping and players will be aware that weve got a ceo/chairman who welcomed and covered up the reform stuff. And then this too. Its all great having KM and a new training ground.. but weve got a very different ceo/chairman to other clubs. Some will love that. Some wont. |
I imagine most footballers won't even know who Mark Ashton is, let alone that he invited Reform into the club.

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 10:48 - May 8 by ipswichtillidie | So you would move on arguably our best chairman in over 2 decades after over seeing one of the most successful periods in our history in recent times. Over what? Him engaging with politicians to ultimately help the football club or perhaps for engaging with the fans like one of us? Some people will just never be happy. [Post edited 8 May 10:49]

Engaging with politicians, then lying about it! That's not acceptable. Singing abusive song about an old lady - very questionable for a senior exec of the club. Can you cite another Chairman who's done the same? Very poor, questionable judgement, on top of the Fa....ge debacle.

Yep. No-one seems to have battered an eyelid at Doug King being front and centre of Coventry's celebrations either?

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 11:04 - May 8 by The_Flashing_Smile | Sheepy was front and centre when we went up in 2000, I don't seem to remember anyone complaining at the time. |
it was pretty embarrassing watching him try to be the number one footie fan and articulate his excitement. I was squirming with embarrassment for him.

So not the parade bus then. But standing as a proud chairman at the town hall as a senior official. Yes that makes absolute sense and something all clubs would do imo.

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 10:49 - May 8 by MattinLondon | We’ve all done silly things after having a few beers but alcohol is still no excuse. ‘I’m sorry FA Committee for acting like a tit but you know, I had some beers. Case closed’. As CEO he should have more self-control. |
Sure, that's what I meant by 'should have avoided'. He is the club's senior admin representative. With the position (and rewards) comes a reponsibility over how you act in public.

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 11:10 - May 8 by FrimleyBlue | So anything that happens is ok because 5 years ago he alongside chairman o leary and other people Involved decided to take a risk on a guy who hadnt managed a senior game.. Of course we are grateful they all worked together and it worked out well. Doesn't mean however nothing else matters. |
I was replying to Herbs' point: "We are where we are because we have a generational talent as manager, not because of a David Brent wannabe." McKenna was on Ashton's list and Ashton recommended and appointed him. Let's not try to rewrite history now some of us don't like Ashton. I haven't said that means everything's ok in the future, or anything of the sort.

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 11:27 - May 8 with 791 views | mellowblue | "In 2023, her car was attacked by Ipswich fans while heading to Portman Road for an East Anglian derby." Load of dross. Hardly town fans fault if she follows the team bus through the usual town fans reception committee. A beer bottle landed on her bonnet and some hurty words were said. Big deal. As for Ashton, is he that in touch with crowd songs, did he know the words. Was he pretending to sing along. If he was singing along it is disappointing, I would would have expected more common sense, sensitivity and decorum from O'Shea and Ashton; them being club leaders. | | | |

And thats why the fa are involved. I do find it amazing that some dont appear to see the importance of ashtons role and how he quite simply should not be acting in certain ways. Lately hes acting like ' ill do what I want when I want. Damn anyone else.

They'll know who he is when they meet him, obviously! Before then, in the 1000s of leagues you reckon we should be looking in, most won't know him, let alone his dealings with Farage. This might come as a shock, but some of them will know little, if anything, about Ipswich Town.

I know mate I just using that in jest to the other poster But ashtons managerial list came from discussions he and others had. Its not all on ashton firstly. And lets not forget that was a risk on getting mckenna. Its worked out well. It might not have done. But the point is tho just because of that it doesnt let ashton off for anything that happens after that event. In general hes got on witb things fine...but since hes been ceo/chairman. Some things havent been great. Some things have been. But also lately some things are just terrible from someone in such a high level of authority at the club. I dont feel ashton should be sacked. But I feel someone needs to be put in place as chairman to hold him accountable.

LOL. So chanting and being front and centre on an open top bus parade is a no-no but chanting and being front and centre on a town hall balcony is "standing proud" and absolutely fine!?

Of course. But if we go for a player abroad for example and they look into this club ipswich.. seeing farage proudly promoting a town shirt isnt a great look. And now depending on what happens with the fa. Ashton could have a fine or whatever but again more limelight.

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 11:37 - May 8 with 715 views | hoppy | What will they actually investigate? Reports from the Norfolk Evening News mention him 'leading the chants'... it looks more like 'joining in'... will they dissect which parts of the chant he actually sang, or just that he joined in with part of it at all to come to any decision or charges? | |

They won't look into the club that far, most won't even know who Farage is. It's really not the big and/or damaging story you think it is.

Yes. Because town still had a parade before the town hall.. that time was for players. The manager the coaches etc The town hall was where the town got together to celebrate. They then all went their separate ways Sheepy didn't get on the bus. Make himself the first person you see and also didnt go out as one of the lads and sing stupid songs about an oap Theres a decorum in how you act in that position. Being involved in celebration is normal, expected and deserved. Its how you go about it.

| Ashton under investigation from FA on 10:29 - May 8 by MattinLondon | Your second paragraph is rather reflective of what is wrong in this country - the inability to see when something is wrong just because it’s the other side. Just because some feel that verbally abusing an 84 year old woman is a bit odd it does not mean that they are backing a Norwich based media organisation. I’m all for singing anti-Norwich songs but those Delia ones are awful. And like it or not, it’s one thing for an ordinary fan to sing those songs but for a CEO or captain to sing them - they are required to have more class and responsibility about them. |
And also, for all the people who think Ashton is doing a great job on footballing side, and hard to argue with that - surely you don't want him doing things like this, or the Reform meeting which will distract from it, which will give his bosses reasons to question his judgement, which could expedite his exit etc
