Because, er, your newly elected councillor might not actually exist!

Monday election update: 1 Reform councillor fired, 1 Reform councillor ran away, and 1 Reform councillor might not exist. Waveney Valley's George Alexander Jonathan Boyd is an AI generated image. No A-V, no sightings, no trace except for agent's address. Why aren't the news media all over this?

Journalists must be digging into this.

What is the situation if it turns out the person on the ballot paper does not exist?

Of course, it is still possible they do exist and the AI-generated photo is explainable.

Apparently there are warnings all over the nomination forms that submitting false information is a criminal act, punishable by a potentially unlimited fine or a year imprisonment.

I know there was one who does actually exist in Bradford who has resigned already as he didn't want to do it, and a couple in Essex that have gone because of hideous things said previously online.

And every time that happens, there has to be a by-election, which costs the taxpayer.

It would be an interesting court case if it came to that.

Presumably one without a case law precedent. Unlimited fine gives as much scope as possible.

Of course, it is nowhere near any of that at this stage.

I imagine there would be severe sanctions on the election agent, and probably also the party.

Should cost the party shouldn’t it? Same as when someone defects there should be another election at that party’s expense.

Another one that’s quite funny is someone up Newcastle way turned up to the wrong council to sign her papers . Jonathan Gullis (yes, that one) was the election agent. https://kidsgrove.substack.com

There are quite a few stories starting to emerge, as expected. There’s an Essex one, Stuart Prior who described white people as "the master race" who have "larger brains" (they’re not racist though). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

Another one who thinks immigrants should be shot dead and er, then deported. I’m not sure how that works. It doesn’t appear to be of interest to the press, so this is the source (apols if it’s just social media bollox).

Reform UK’s new councillor Michael Quigley of Houghton South & Hetton Downs, Sunderland thinks immigrants should be “shot on site” (sic) by our armed forces and transported to an island. Horrific.

Why is this not surprising Swanners?
A few of us posted about these loons in the run up to the election. One Sunderland candidate (subsequently successful I believe) went so far as to offer a suitable solution to the pot hole crisis - Melt down Nigerians and fill the holes.
None of this stopped anyone voting for them it seems.
The cult of farage looms strong. He can do no wrong in some people's eyes.
And to think some actually want to go further and see restore voted into power too.
Each to their own, but no matter how bad SKS is doing and we want to see effective change, are these people really who we want to see governing our country?

He has written a statement for South Norfolk Reform on their Facebook page.

Cllr George Boyd leading the Team in Waveney Valley Division 🩵

After the end of an eventful few days I would like to thank the voters of Waveney Valley Division for putting their trust in me to be their new County Councillor. It has been a fulfilling couple of months trekking the country lanes and speaking with local residents. I certainly feel much fitter!!
I would also like to thank my volunteers, without whom my task would have been impossible.
It is also right to thank the candidates from the other parties for what I believe was a fair and clean campaign. Without a wide variety of opinions our vibrant democracy cannot function.
I would also like to thank my predecessor Barry Stone for his many years of public service in Norfolk.
With that I'm off for a week of induction sessions at county hall by day, and parish council meetings in the evenings. Following induction my council email address will be publicly available and I encourage all residents with local concerns to get in contact. I'm looking forward to working together on the issues which matter to all of us - housing, education, road improvements, social care, and the preservation of our countryside. The Waveney Valley is a great place for a holiday, and I implore those who haven't been to pay a visit our beautiful part of world and support our vibrant pubs and local businesses!

And now the hard work begins!! 🩵💪👍

There is poor quality photo but he looks older now.

Although I get where you are coming from, doesn't that make it simply a break even figure?

The truth of it is that Reform have so much access to dodgy money even if the fine were 10s of millions it wouldn't really hurt them.

It does look a bit like him. I do wonder who decides a picture is AI-generated and whether that is an AI-generated image or a touched-up photo. I also wonder why that pic (in the Facebook post) is taken from so far away without zooming in at all.

I think the reality is that the bloke will exist and it is a rather strange story for someone to have run with. Was it simply because they thought the picture didn't look natural?

It's quite incredible how a mischievous tweet can just blow up and no-one questions it, i did 1 google search on "waveney councillor george boyd" and it was the 4th result down.

Nuts innit. As you say it’s simply a cult. It’s the same playbook as MAGA where the leaders say what I true and the faithful blindly accept and worship. I hope we don’t go as far as the US and we’re not their yet, but we’re literally half way there in terms of %support and that should worry anyone.
