a single penny! They have suffered sporting sanctions which is entirely the correct penalty.

Which they brought on themselves. No sympathy for those responsible - just the fans, who if you imagine it being your club, you’d be absolutely gutted to have been let down like this and seen your club become the example to others for breaking rules they knew all about. | |

I agree, and I think Saints fans should be asking a lot of questions. Who sanctioned this, did the manager know, who else knew etc. I don't have a dim view on Southampton because of this though, just the individuals who were part of it. I hope they get exposed and are judged by prospective employers in the game as their futures unfold. | |

The sanction wouldn't have been any different if they had done what they did at any other level of the pyramid. Some are saying it is disproportionate because of the likely financial effect of not being promoted. That is only disproportionate because of the disproportionate wealth of being in the PL. If they had offended at a lower level they would have just taken their just desserts and rid themselves of anyone involved at any level of their club. But ultimately for them it's all about the money and IMO they've got off lightly not being relegated. | |

Well, by convention the loser of the play off final gets all the tickets income which is somewhere between 1 and 2 million I believe, so at the very least they have lost that. |  |
