Oh wow that’s got to be the worst I’ve ever seen at a club of that level!
At least we will be attracting better players with our new facilities, hopefully a better selling point this time round!

Friend of mine is a Hull ST holder and lifelong fan, he thinks the training ground should be the priority area investing their premier league money.

On the player recruitment side I wonder if they’ll be in for Greaves?

Let's pretend we're a huge club which gives us the right to criticise a newly promoted team's facilities.
Wow indeed.

When I was a kid to train at football all you needed was a patch of grass and a football. How times have changed.

Why would they waste their time going in for Greaves? He won't be going anywhere.

How’s that a criticism it’s an observation? This site really has gone downhill, can’t even comment anymore.
Our facilities have been bad until now, perhaps we can be proud of the changes without thinking somebody is trying to bad mouth another’s?
Boring

Not sure it’s that unthinkable given his background. I’m not suggesting we’ll actively look to sell him but everyone has a price.

You state training grounds don’t conflate directly to success, whilst suggesting they do.

Spurs. There’s is the best in Europe. Leicester’s not far behind.

I’m sure it helps performance, but we won’t suddenly become elite.

World class talent id, coaching, management, revenue, that’s what makes elite clubs.., the training facilities are the icing, and I’m sorry, but Ashton used it as deflection away form his failings.

Disagree. Facilities, infrastructure contribute enormously to performance. They are the building blocks; the foundations, not the icing. They are not decoration but basic requirements in top level sport.

I get you like to use the term elite because you can then use it as a stick to beat the owners (who you’ve spent five years slaughtering - did you not call them debt peddlers?), CEO and everything else you hate.

There’s six elite clubs. The Sky six. We know who they are. We are not and never will be. Who cares. Hopefully they’ll scoot off and form some euro nonsense one day.

Scouting and recruitment along with a worthwhile academy, coaching and management, supporter engagement and community are all part of the puzzle that will get you where you want to go. Especially for a provincial club like this.

You use the word failings a lot. I get that compared to your beloved Canaries we are some way off your success levels, but to use the term failings three weeks after a third promotion in four years after nearly slipping beyond redemption makes no sense to me.

This club in five years has changed beyond all recognition. Ok, we have unhappy people including one that never wants to see the club promoted again - I hope he’s moved on from the disappointment. But personally, I see a club that is trying to move in the right direction.

Failings. Whatever your opinion if the man 3 promotions in 4 seasons and all the infrastructure improvements and continual improvements everywhere around the club including all the community stuff isn't in the stratosphere of failing.

I'm not a fan of the man's personality but everything about the club including scouting and talent ID has improved. The latter is work in progress but it's so unbelievably disrespectful and entitled to say "Ashton's failings".

Assuming McKenna stays this summer, the development of the training ground is a major plus point in showing that the club listen to and implement his wishes. I still worry about him going to a medium sized Premier club this summer, but just yesterday Glasner was implying that his Chairman does what he wants. Ashton clearly has has faults, but does allow McKenna a free reign when it comes to footballing operations

That just goes to emphasise even more just what a hell of a job they've done this season. Ambitious owner too and what looks like a shrewd manager. Don't just write them off as cannon fodder and 6 guaranteed points next season.

I was at Uni there in the mid-90s. They actually used our sports facilities at one point because their own were either knackered or sold off. That was in their 'only just avoiding non-league' days.

The Lawns? Probably the worst pitches I have ever played on back in those days, like the Baseball Ground in the 1970s. Jacob Greaves's dad looks after them now, he told me, so I assume they're much better.

It helps to have a nice ground/facilities, but it’s far from the priority. Anyone been to Selhurst Park lately? It’s a dump. Swansea were training in a public gym when they got promoted. Didn’t hurt, they started up easily and won the League Cup the following season. Obviously you want good facilities, but the priority should always be on the pitch and not around it imo (see Pioneer
And N/S stand redevelopments that all hurt us at the time).

Poll: Escaped Goat of the day. Who’s it going to be?

Yup. TBH the only time I spent up there was either chasing girls or drinking inappropriately so I can't comment on the quality of the facilities :-)

If I remember right, Papa Greaves would have been in the team that was using them. Must be weird.

Agree. Ashton has done an incredible job in such a short space of time. He can be unbearable going about it at times but I refuse to be incapable of giving credit where it is due just because I can't stand his recent awful error of judgement and some of his cringe sound bites.

Don't feel bad about it, show me one person who has got a few years on the clock and says he/she hasn't made at least one awful error of judgement so far in their lives, and I'll show you a liar. I most certainly have, have you?
