| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town 12:48 - May 30 with 3716 views | Churchman | The thread on Trevor Whymark prompted this. I know it’s been done before, but what are your top 5 that you’ve seen? For me I saw Crawford play, but don’t remember him so he is left out of my list. 1. Paul Mariner 2. Marcus Stewart 3. Trevor Whymark 4. Alan Brazil 5. David Johnson 1st | | | | |

Ebanks-Blake will be upset he didn’t make this list once he puts down his bargain bucket

....I'm saying that Hirst is the 5th best striker I've ever seen play for us. Quite an accolade really.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 16:30 - May 30 with 718 views | marshland | On 6th May 1978 after 77 minutes of missing chances midfielder Roger Osborne hit the low shot to win the FA Cup . He wasn't a striker at all and certainly wasn't the best Ipswich Striker over a season, that must be Paul Mariner but that was the best strike by a Town player just edging out the Magilton hat trick against Bolton and that last minute Sarmiento goal against Southampton in 2024 | | | |
| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 16:48 - May 30 with 687 views | monkeymagic | Mariner Brazil Stewart Atkinson Wilson | | | |
| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 16:48 - May 30 with 686 views | RetroBlue | Mariner has it all, but Trevor Whymark was under rated in my view. His ability to header that ball was second to none... we called him Radar because he rarely missed with his head... | |

| Hmmm, tough one.... on 13:00 - May 30 by Bloots | .....I'd go for: 1. Bajner 2. Ellington 3. Sammon 4. Quaner 5. Hirst. |
Pop Mitch D'Avray & Robin Turner to that group and you're on to something.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 17:24 - May 30 with 654 views | DJR | I could cheat and say Ray Crawford because I saw him in his testimonial but for those I saw in proper games, it would be 1. Brazil 2. Mariner 3. Gates 4. Whymark 5. David Johnson the elder. I rank them higher than any later players because they did all their business over a period of time in the top division. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 17:56 - May 30 with 618 views | pablovien | I attended matches regularly between 1967 and 1978, when I moved away. The center forwards that I enjoyed watching the most during those years were: Ray Crawford Paul Mariner David Johnson John O'Rourke Trevor Whymark Honorable mention for Mick Hill ... Mick the Flick ... who went to live with the hippies ... | | | |

Ahhh, John O’Rourke. My first favourite player. Mop of black hair, scored every week.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 21:05 - May 30 with 521 views | armchaircritic59 | There is only one possible answer to that, Ray Crawford. 320 appearances for ITFC, 204 goals. Yes that is right. Oh and I think I've done his goalscoring partner in crime a disservice. Ted Philipps, 269 appearances for ITFC, 161 goals. So make it the best two, by absolute miles! Wonder where we'd be with striking like that now! | | | |

Robin Turner's goals against Bristol rovers kept us in the FA Cup in 78. Sacrilege !
| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 21:28 - May 30 with 509 views | naa | Bit surprised that those who have put more recent strikers on this list haven't put David Johnson the 2nd. His goals record for us was excellent over a reasonable period of time. Best I've seen is Stewart I'd say. Bent had one cracking season. Liked Mathie too. Had a soft spot for David Lowe too. Lovely player. | | | |
| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 01:59 - May 31 with 450 views | Sharkey | Mariner. But Brazil was so good that when he scored 5 against Southampton, on the way out of Churchman's the people in front of me were talking about how good Keegan had been for Saints. That's how much they took Brazil's abilty to stick the ball in the net for granted. | | | |

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 15:41 - May 30 by waveneyblue | Fun fact. Ian Marshall had a hell of a record for us. 32 goals in 84 games... a lot of those apps in an abysmal team too. |
I was wondering if he'd get a mention.

Did you see them play? Must have been a sight to behold. My dad and his father thought so.
| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 06:23 - May 31 with 407 views | Len_Brennan | 1. Mariner 2. Brazil 3. Stewart 4. Atkinson 5. Bent The order could change depending on the interpretation of the question - i.e. goalscoring record v quality of finishes v longevity v overall game etc., but whatever way you look at it, Mariner is the clear #1 for those of us that missed out on the Crawford & Phillips era. | |

The OP was very much about gut feel and personal experience rather than any specific criteria.

| Best strikers you saw play for Ipswich Town on 13:20 - May 30 by cressi | I missed out on Crawford but obviously our greatest striker goals per game was on a different level I think mick Hill and Frank Clarke then Rod Belfitt come along.. 1, Mariner 2,Brazil 3,Bent 4, Stewart 5, Murphy |
There was also Ron Wigg who had a very healthy 14 goals in 37 games. I may be misremembering but I think his chant was or included "Wiggo". Sadly, he died at 48. My first Ipswich game in April 1969 had Wigg and John O'Rourke up front, with an 87th winning goal from Wigg. https://www.prideofanglia.com/ [Post edited 31 May 10:02]

No Sam Parkin? It’s a good job our current sponsors weren’t in D’Avray’s time, he’d have wanted it twice on his shirt…
