Minor irritations about the World Cup so far 18:02 - Jun 14 with 4357 viewsIllinoisblue

That bit when the three VAR refs are introduced.

The game turning into quarters. How the fk has this happened? It’s not even that hot in the U.S. in June.

The full entire squad lining up around the centre circle before kick off and then the customary hand shakes amongst all 26 players, same with officials. Then the TV cutting to the VAR team standing to salute.

The tannoy announcements to the crowd for yellow cards and "the whistle has blown for" hydration breaks". If the crowd haven't got a clue what's going on, they shouldn't be at a bloody World Cup match! Oh and saying "yellow card for PLAYER number 8" etc.

Music being played during these breaks like it's ice hockey etc.

Absolutely despise the American culture of this tournament.

It's a show, the soccer ( sorry, football :) ) is a sideshow. If I typed what I really think, I think it would get taken down, so I'll leave it there!

The crowd counting down to KO is the most w&nk thing I’ve ever heard at a game.

The country-specific goal music.

Pretty much odds-on that ours is going to be Sweet F**king Caroline, isn't it.

I don’t like them being every game, I think it should be its above a certain temp or humidity and not for the temp control environments but to say it’s not even that hot in the US June isn’t really true.

Managers obviously want it, we done it for years with the Chaplin sit down.

I've only watched one half of a game so far, and got mildly annoyed by lots. In particular the pre match nonsense with about 400 people on the pitch that you might expect for the final, not a meaningless group game.

Also, when did it become the FIFA World Cup, rather than just the world cup?
The FIFA logo seems to get used a LOT.

They really do seem to be pushing the FIFA-ness of it with that giant logo.

I would love for Infantino to appear on the big screen for an England game, as in 2022 vs Wales, and get torn to shreds by the crowd.

Looking at it, apparently the Germans' one (Völlig Losgelöst - Peter Schilling) is the DFB's official goal music (that's one thing that I've never quite got my head around with German football - they're big on tradition and atmosphere, but go nuts for goal music).

Does the FA have an official tune?

I suspect some in the game will try to make it a permanent thing in the game to make the most of ad revenues and the like. But I really hope it doesn't happen.

Yeah, I don’t like the new quarters structure, as that’s what it is. I’m with JJJ - there should be a cutoff agreed beforehand based on the temps, not a blanket ad break.

Cool, cool. Just the ongoing desecration of the people’s game to squeeze in yet more commercials. Nothing to see here.

You'll be middle aged one day too, and realise that grumbling about generally unimportant stuff not being as good as it use to be comes amazingly easily.

I think the OP was just a bit tongue in cheek 4J, as have been most of the replies.

Does it have to though? With enough kickback from fans there’s a chance it doesn’t go that way, but if people say nothing it certainly will.

Agreed on it being hot in the summer. We hit 126° when I was there last (that was in Death Valley though lol). Footballers are obviously too pampered to handle that, but the Badwater Ultra runners aren’t such wimps.
