Minor irritations about the World Cup so far 18:02 - Jun 14 with 5691 viewsIllinoisblue

That bit when the three VAR refs are introduced.

The game turning into quarters. How the fk has this happened? It’s not even that hot in the U.S. in June.

It's a show, the soccer ( sorry, football :) ) is a sideshow. If I typed what I really think, I think it would get taken down, so I'll leave it there!

So it's the World Cup. And the World Cup has 'host' countries. And part of the fun of the World Cup is seeing how a host country presents the game.

It's different to how we present the game. Just as 2002 in Korea and Japan was different to how we present the game. Or South Africa in 2010.

The Americans are more 'showbiz' than us. So we are getting the game with a little bit of razzmatazz. Enjoy it for what it is or don't. It will be somewhere else next ime around.

And I really can't think of what would make you so angry about this World Cup that your post would be taken down.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

I think the OP was just a bit tongue in cheek 4J, as have been most of the replies.
I don't think anyone is taking it as "what boils my p1ss about this sh1t show".

Who knows the entire weekend has been obsessive moaning about a pretty decent start to a tournament. From the kick off times (funny that 4000 miles away) to the lack of seeing the bigger nations on the opening few days.

Thats after I’ve read posts from individuals wanting Rice to have an ACL injury and another stating to anyone even watching it is a fascist. Why do mods even let that crap get slung around.

So yeah this can be a bit of angry/unpleasant place at times, when people just want to talk or dare I say, even enjoy football.

I’m off to enjoy the atmosphere of the summer with people that want to have fun. The politics and overall negativity of this place is completely draining.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Looking at it, apparently the Germans' one (Völlig Losgelöst - Peter Schilling) is the DFB's official goal music (that's one thing that I've never quite got my head around with German football - they're big on tradition and atmosphere, but go nuts for goal music).

Does the FA have an official tune?

Yeah but that song is a banger (and was the title music for Deutschland 83/86/89). I’m hoping ours is Chelsea Dagger.

I have neither the time or inclination to read all the posts here so can't comment too much, but yes, the Rice stuff was shameful.
I'm not sure I ever saw the fascist comment! This place does throw up the odd classic take!
All I would say though is that the thread couldn't be much clearer about it's intent though, so moans and gripes could only have been expected.
Neither of us need our time hoovered up any more on this topic so I wish you well with your fun seeking.
It's always good for the soul.

Exactly - you can't be having actual real names on a half-and-half scarf.

The one I've seen tonight's game should be "Central Europe White v Spicy Holland".

I've not really been watching much, but just looking at results there have clearly been some interesting games, though the nonsense surrounding the actual football seems to be pretty grating

My not watching is not really a protest, more just a lack of enthusiasm, albeit half watched the Germany game earlier as I had nothing better to do.

I’ve watched most of the games with a socially acceptable kick-off time as well as the Brazil game last night and am enjoying it for the most part.

Everyone from a round the world is having a nice time in the host cities …. Until the English arrive and are generally obnoxious with an unpleasant snarl at everything, to the soundtrack of the tedious Starmer song.

There’s absolutely no need for three minute breaks in each half of every game. I worry that this will become normal and football will become a game of quarters longer term. And that will be a dreadful legacy if that’s what the septics give us.

My son observed that him and his teammates have their water bottles strewn along the sideline when it’s hot so they can grab them. Obvs they ain’t going to do that but pretending it’s player welfare at twenty degrees in Toronto is such buIIshit when we all know it’s to bring in additional advertising breaks.

Should be 60 seconds and away from the dugouts. Have people ready to go on with drinks during any injury.

FIFA need to come up with a plan for ever increasing temperatures.

Totally.

I think what FIFA will more likely do is recognise the value that the hydration breaks have added to the balance sheets of broadcasters globally and adjust their own thinking accordingly.

My only irritant is when the camera pans to a bunch of celebrities high-fiving one another when they know that they are in shot.

In true WC tradition the director should only show close-ups of really attractive women with big tits wearing low cut or tight tops.
