Will always be a huge shame that we didn't make enough fuss of him last season because the numpties and boo boys decided it wasn't good enough. Should have been singing his song a lot more. I hope KM is enjoying his rest and recovering after giving everything.

| Leif saying KM was almost falling asleep on the bus watching games... on 09:24 - Jun 21 by Blue_Heath | He's gone and he came in a at a great time where the club had been stale and declining for so long. I will get pelters for this but Season 1: Could have got us into play offs - didn't. (forgiven due to Lambert) Season 2: Objective achieved but with the squad we had we should have won the division Season 3: Amazing, second only to GB finishing 5th in prem in recent history. Season 4: Expected but the manner we went down was not good, PR was a miserable place to be that season. (Forgiven due to credit in bank) Season 5: Expected but a large element of luck (Hackney injury) and again should have finished top with money spent. Football for the most part wasn't the best but I accept the style was to try and retain PL status the following year. He obviously didn't think he could keep us up, not sure the boo boys had that much effect? I think next season will show how us how good he was. If GON get's 30+ points and 6 wins it'd be hard to make a case that KM would have done better. He's gone, accept it, tbh I didn't really want GON but he's here now, let's get behind him and hope he can do the biz. |
Wow! You take some pleasing. A squad that experienced managers couldn't get competitive in League 1 was taken not only to promotion in his first full season but to second place and promotion in the Championship. You then think (because it did so well against all predictions) it suddenly was good enough to form the basis of a team good enough to stay in the Premier League or at least come closer to doing so? Now, you must be expecting us to stay up comfortably then? Which is odd because there is no reason we should be anything better than fighting relegation from where we are at the moment. Why does spending money equate to "should have finished top"? Name me 3 top half sides who would have swapped our 3 strikers for their own. Name me 3 top half sides who Taylor/Cajuste/Neil would have been first choice in midfield. Name me 3 top half sides who Walton would have been clear first choice keeper. Yes, we had some good defenders and wide attacking players and Matusiwa. But we haven't got a squad that is a class above the top half Championship squads. Which is why we have so much work to do to be ready for the Premier League still.

I'd imagine at lot of top managers work hard. What fuss would you have given him extra? He's paid handsomely for a job which a lot of people would love to do. Clearly if he's burnt out over it, he was doing too much. [Post edited 21 Jun 21:57]

This whole thread seem utterly ridiculous and pointless to me. By and large Mckenna did a really good job. Undoubtedly we were well under equipped for the premier league and that season in the end was hugely disappointing. Despite this it was great to be back amongst the elite. The club remained loyal throughout that period and McKenna reinstated us and despite what is said above our current is vastly technically more superior to the one from 2 years ago with additions to come. Onwards and upwards we go

Can you define "well equipped for the Premier League" please? I presume you don't think we need to sign anyone other than someone equivalent to Delap to be ready for it this season as well then. EDIT: My mistake - I have just reread your post and see I missed out the critical word "under" on first reading. [Post edited 22 Jun 9:03]

That seems an odd reply - did you misread the post? ā Undoubtedly we were well under equipped for the premier league and that season in the end was hugely disappointing.ā And ā superior to the one from 2 years ago with additions to come.ā Iād certainly agree with both of those statements. People falling over themselves to dismiss KMc is a bit sad, in all honesty.

No one's dismissing him, modern day legend - yes, we may crumble from here on in, we may establish ourselves in the top flight, who knows? KM as stated had 1 amazing season, one excellent one, one good one, first half season forgiven and prem forgiven. I don't exactly call that dismissive. However, if GON achieves 30+ points and 6 wins that's a brilliant achievement, if he keeps us up that would surpass the first PL promotion for me.

Exactly this. Heās also walked out on us, regardless of how itās been sugar coated. Whether itās genuine that he wanted time out, or that we wouldnāt release him we will never find out, but to protect his legacy heās gone by his own accord, probably because he knew he couldnāt keep us up. I think heāll turn up at Celtic where itās a three horse race at best for the league, a very comfortable position for him rather than the extremely difficult PL. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think he genuinly does want a change. The same place and job year in year out isnāt for everyone. I also think that he is tired and doesnāt want another relegation on his CV which is where your first paragraph chimes with me. Guesswork really. Celtic wouldnāt surprise me but more likely a Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford level role seems logical to me. I could also see him assisting Carrick at United for a bi. More guesswork. Anyway, who cares what he does. Not me. Heās part of the history books and has moved on. So should we.

Completely agree. It's deeply depressing. They need reminding of where we were when he took over. And not just in terms of position in league one. No soul!

Your point about next season is pretty silly tbf. If we recruit really well this season and give O'Neil the tools he needs to be competitive in the Premier League and he keeps us up that is great. But we didn't give KM the tools he needed to keep us up in his season in the Prem so its not directly comparable.
