We don’t want modern tripe like the yellow bulb scoreboard of the 90s. If you cant remember the score as the game goes along you shouldn’t be there.
What we need is alphabet for half time scores (that were always wrong), team sheets on the back of the programme and those little blue Invacars for the mobility impaired in the corner. Adverts for booze, Churchmans Grandees, Radio Rentals and Visionhire and Esso.
Lastly those 1970s shirts without adverts on.

What is the alphabet for half time scores thing? Before my time - Did a load of girlies come out and do semaphore to spell out the names and scores for every team? Must have been quite laborious, if so. Four times for four stands too. | |

What you had were letters on a black square. Corresponding to the letter was a game published in the programme. At half time they’d put the scores under the letter a bit like you did on old cricket scoreboards.
They’d be round the pitch at some grounds but I think at Ipswich they were at the base of one of the floodlights.

About 12 years ago I visited the Cowboys stadium. At the time it was the newest, best NFL stadium, although it has been superceded somewhat. Nevertheless it was amazing, and as you say streets ahead of anything we have here. |  | | |
