The big screens in these stadiums are like something out of a sci-fi film 20:59 - Jun 23 with 1134 viewsGlasgowBlue

Years ahead of what we have here. Magnificent.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

Could likely get 8-10k extra seats in the space taken up by those giant screens. I guess the stop-start “and now it’s the next play” structure of an NFL game lends itself to having constant replays on a large screen.

Yuck! Bigger adverts and more celebrity w@nk, do I not want!

Think how many seats could use that space.

I want PR to go back to that little yellow bulb strip with the little geezer dancing around - and that can stay off during the actual game.

Humbug!

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

As many adverts as possible to keep fans going until the quarterly advert breaks.

At the real risk of being labelled a centrist dad with a kitchen island, I do think that Portman Road strikes the right balance between modern bright advertising screens etc. Whilst maintaining the dignified feel of an old stadium.

Why…they don’t even have a roof lol.

Massive telly, but you have to sit there in a poncho in the p1ssing rain - progress.

We don’t want modern tripe like the yellow bulb scoreboard of the 90s. If you cant remember the score as the game goes along you shouldn’t be there.

What we need is alphabet for half time scores (that were always wrong), team sheets on the back of the programme and those little blue Invacars for the mobility impaired in the corner. Adverts for booze, Churchmans Grandees, Radio Rentals and Visionhire and Esso.

Lastly those 1970s shirts without adverts on.

Sorted!

What is the alphabet for half time scores thing? Before my time - Did a load of girlies come out and do semaphore to spell out the names and scores for every team? Must have been quite laborious, if so. Four times for four stands too.

Tut, young people of today.

What you had were letters on a black square. Corresponding to the letter was a game published in the programme. At half time they’d put the scores under the letter a bit like you did on old cricket scoreboards.

They’d be round the pitch at some grounds but I think at Ipswich they were at the base of one of the floodlights.

It went the way of all things with tannoys and electric scoreboards.

Thank you. I like the sound of that.

(ps. You'll get done for saying 'tannoys' especially with a lower case 't'.)

About 12 years ago I visited the Cowboys stadium. At the time it was the newest, best NFL stadium, although it has been superceded somewhat. Nevertheless it was amazing, and as you say streets ahead of anything we have here.

if we had very large screens would people watch those rather than something on their phone? as long as the match doesn't distract people i guess.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
