F.I.F.A. Suspend Balogun’s red card so he is eligible for US game agsinst Belgium

Poll: Dickhead "Noun" a stupid, irritating, or ridiculous man.

Absolute joke - not even a borderline red.

Makes an absolute mockery of the disciplinary system if suspensions become optional, based on the whim of FIFA.

I look forward to all other red cards receiving a similar treatment going forwards.

Ridiculous decision, what next for the 1/4 finals, all favourites to start with a goal lead?

That is just fcking corruption in plain sight.

If you’re Messi, Ronaldo, or an American, you’ve a free pass.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they'll be doing their best to try and encourage Portugal and Argentina into the final.

They aren't even claiming it wasn't a red card.

"In line with article 27 of the Fifa disciplinary code, the implementation of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year," it said in a statement.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

A suspended red card!? I have never heard of that before in all my years of following football. Just when I started getting into this year's World Cup this happens and now I don't feel like watching once again. I will just watch the England matches mainly.

Ronaldo got the same treatment at the end of the qualifiers.

Picked up a three-match ban for elbowing O'Shea. Served the first match in the final qualifier against Albania and then, conveniently, had the final two matches suspended.

Just a pure coincidence that those two suspended matches would have been Portugal's first two WC games.

There is one precedent.

Cristiano Ronaldo should have been suspended for the first two games of this tournament for his red against ROI, but the same thing was decreed by FIFA.

C@nts.

Pure corruption, Belgium should consider refusing to play and if other countries had any morals they'd join them.

It would be brilliant if teams withdrew from the World Cup in protest. There has to be fairness in applying the rules in sporting competition, or what is the point?

It’s not ruined the World Cup but it’s shown why it’s a continuation from Russia and Qatar. The competition is a long way behind making money and greasing the right palms.

The BBC just reported:

US President Donald Trump thanked Fifa for "reversing a great injustice" in a post on Truth Social.

Trump, a friend of Fifa president Gianni Infantino, wrote: "Thank you to Fifa for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was among those who had demanded the decision to be reviewed.

I can't see how FIFA would have any choice but to back down if there was solidarity, but in the real world there isn't a cat's chance in hell of that happening.

A supreme irony given the Trump administration's efforts to remove automatic citizenship rights for babies born in the US.

The hallmark of Trump’s reign: very blatant unchecked corruption for himself, his idiot sons and his enablers. All chasing in on numerous grifts and scams. Result: collective shrug from the media and the masses.

It’s close to ruining it. We are all aware of the corruption behind the scenes with how certain competitions get awarded and no doubt a subset of companies benefit, but this looks like blatant interference in the competition itself.

In the words of Kevin Keegan, I would love it if Belgium do an absolute job on the US team.

Absolutely disgusted with the whole thing.
