The Bellingham in this tournament is a far more mature and controlled player that he was in 2024 - and his contributions are more focussed in the role he has been tasked with. Whether that is down to him getting older/wiser or how he has been managed by Tuchel and Ancelotti/Arbeloa/Alonso we may never know. He didn't win us the game single handed, he won it alongside his team mates and was one of the team last night who acheived something quite special.

Then I hope he will bite some of my other generals and make them mad, too!" (A similar and perhaps more famous one is attributed to Abraham Lincoln about General Grant's drinking). The juxtaposition of brilliance and a sometimes difficult personality is fairly common throughout history.

He used to have a stroppy edge to him when things didn’t go for him. I don’t think that’s controversial or that unusual in young players. He seems the consummate profession in this tournament though and mature beyond his years. Given the way he rallies and supports other players (did you see him make a beeline for Spence after the game?), presumably he’s end up captain.

| I see the petulant on 10:56 - Jul 6 with 1350 views | Garv | It's similar to the Bruno Fernandes topic. It all depends on whether we're winning games or not. If we're doing well he's showing passion and fight but if we're losing he's being petulant and creating a bad atmosphere or whatever else. Tiresome. | |

I thought Mexico were pretty disappointing going forward after the penalty. Lots of talk about England's heroic defending but they kept just sending in mid-pace crosses from identical positions and neither of their big men could really get up above Burn/Guehi. Plus they took off their best player, which was pretty inexplicable. A team with a better attacking threat (like the one England will face next...) would have made hay I think.

There's a saying that " there's a thin line between genius and insanity ". Some have walked that tightrope successfully, others........
