| Anyone know if Emersonn speaks any English? on 12:52 - Jul 9 with 1913 views | Illinoisblue | What I find fascinating is yesterday we signed a young Brazilian striker for over 20million pounds and there was just a couple threads about it on here. Like it’s no big thing. And there will likely be at least one more signing that will again break our record transfer fee. This is the McKenna legacy; he’s elevated us so so far beyond where we were. Think so too. Wouldn't be surprised to see us hit the £30m barrier this summer. | |

Mad really. I make it 6 of our current squad that cost more than £15m (O'Shea, Greaves, Walle-Egeli, J. Clarke, Philogene, Emersonn). Probably 10+ by the time this window is out.

This is such a great point - and also highlights how much better prepared we are than last time. Last time probably 6 of our current squad cost less than £150k!

And that's the level of the game now, and why we were so up against it last time, and still this time. The 'lower level' prem teams, palace, Fulham Brentford, Bournemouth Brighton forest leeds, previously wolves and west ham, they have all had season after season after season spending 10s of millions on players over and over and over, and selling on and all of that top level transfer churn. That's what we're playing catch up with. Madness. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The biggest signing for me is the CM - obviously we need more than one but we need one of the signings in this area to be a real needle mover. So, I imagine that is either going to be a record breaking fee, require big wages or both.

No one had heard of him until a week or so ago, they may pretend but they hadn’t. He isn’t the striker that is going to keep us up Im afraid. An awful lot of money on a punt. See also Egeli. We still need a striker who can get us a goal or two.

Issue is we cant afford an established 25 ish Brazilian 30 a season striker, so signing a 21 year old who clearly has bags of potential and talent and is super enthusiastic to join makes bags of sense. I dont doubt we will sign an established older hand like Wilson or similar to help him develop and to help us stay up. Yes it may not work out but it could be genius. Also Egeli was played out of position, maybe O'Neil will play him in his favourite position and he will shine? Everyone now thinking Mckenna was the messiah are forgetting he struggled to have a plan b and did have a habit of playing the odd player out of position. (and i was/am a massive Mckenna fan but did find him frustrating)

Nonsense! Did anyone think the Fleetwood Messi (AKA Wes) would be one of our best ever recent players and play in the PL for us when he signed for a small fee from Fleetwood? No one knew! Players are humans with potential, weaknesses they can improve and ability even they might not know they have. He's ready for the challenge. It's not a video game. This lad looks like he suits us. Physical, good header of the ball, can lay it off, technically good, will work hard and run and press. There will be a reason we've decided to spend that money on him. Let's hope he rips it up.

I have not seen much national (or international) media interest either given this is a transfer record for a Premier League club. I guess we are perceived to be less exciting than the 'new boys' of Hull and Coventry but also not established names like the rest of the division.

ITFC existed before you did. Sorry. Where we were was one of the biggest clubs in world football, probably three or four times in our history. We were League One, with the biggest budget in that division, once. That it happened in your lifetime seems to consume you. We’re a big club, one of the biggest in the world with the finance now involved, the same as just before our 22 point season, the worst in history at this level. Keep your feet on the ground, Walle was the most expensive player in EFL history, it didn’t make him a good player, our talent ID has been awful with resources, so I’m guessing most people are waiting to see him play and make a judgement based on his ability, the thing that ACTUALLY counts. Where he comes from. What he costs. They mean nothing if he’s not any good. Sam, Chaplin, Mass, Burgess, Burns, Leif they all cost us almost nothing…, yet they’re better and did more than the group we spent £200 million on, so hold your horses. And been ‘in the big time’ that was once normal, it’s just who we were and our level. Don’t let Ashton persuade Morecombe is our level every time he wastes another £100 million - his record with money is shocking.

| Anyone know if Emersonn speaks any English? on 16:38 - Jul 9 with 810 views | Pinewoodblue | There is still considerable room for improvement with regards to our recruitment. Ten months ago Toulouse paid a Turkish club €3.5m for his services. We need to step up and identify players earlier. I appreciate being Premier League ups the price but Toulouse have made a seven fold profit in less than a year. | |

No but look at the squad he's inheriting. We are set up to play with physical and mobile 9 who brings others in to play. The modern striker. He's similar to Hirst. Suspect we will have been looking at him before the GON appointment.

Also many indigenous languages as well as the four mentioned, some years ago I was in an Irish bar in Cusco where the barman didn't speak Spanish, only Quechua, and there was no Guinness either...

| Anyone know if Emersonn speaks any English? on 17:19 - Jul 9 with 695 views | franz_tyson | I'm hoping he's a gem.... but it does feel like a punt. So in a year he's gone from 3 million quid to 23/24 million quid with just 7 goals in a season. And, yes, goals aren't everything, but that's a big increase in value in a year. Fingers crossed we've done our homework and Ashton's dashboard thingy is churning out some good data. This side, and with a new coach, feels like a mystery at the moment. | | | |

Azon will make it imo, and we probably have got him for a decent price. It's sad that people were so harsh about his goal record, something that is often poor in the early seasons of great forwards. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on his career.
