What are centrism's belief set?

What was Starmerism?

Liberty and society are both virtues to uphold. Private nor public ownership is always right. Being socially liberal without jumping on hipster bandwagons.

Having nuance & moderation is not apolitical.

They are basically fundamentally different concepts: one describes where you stand politically, and the other describes whether you engage with politics at all.

Is it possible to be centrist and apolotical? Sure. It's also possible to be extremist and apolotical.

It is next to impossible to argue narratives with facts when the facts are always ignored to be replaced with soundbites and yet more narratives.

I will always choose facts though. More fool me.

"Is it possible to be centrist and apolotical? Sure. It's also possible to be extremist and apolotical."

I suppose if you give politics a cursory thought once every five years and vote centrist, then you're apolitical. Can you really be an extremist and apolitical though? I think if you've decided all our problems are bc of immigration or having a market economy, then that's placed you in a cocoon of misinformation, and such people tend to think about these political narratives a lot.

I wouldn't say it was common, but I'd imagine, internally, you could have very extreme views, but you choose to never discuss them nor engage with the process. Just preferring to tut to yourself quietly in the shower in the morning.

'Put that on the side of a bus' - so it's People's Vote and we've learned nothing in a decade. 😬😬😬

Not only have you guys learn nothing but you seem to be doubling down on stupidity. I think Binface is the perfect antidote to the Reform supported dog whistling going on in the UK. It's funny how narcissistic types can't handle being ridiculed. Maybe Binface could leverage the Internet ( specifically online donations ) like Nigal did for Brexit to get across the line. #voteforbinface

If the Libs have learnt nothing after a decade then we are sunk.

Liberal =/= centrist

I would consider DJR to be a liberal person, but politically left of centre.

Nice to see you moved on from centrist dad, to another inaccurate term.

Democratic socialist or social democrat best describes me.

Whilst I believe in the cornerstones of liberal democracy (free speech, the rule of law etc.), I am not a liberal because I do not subscribe to the economic liberalism that goes with it.

Things in this country shifted in 1979 when the post-war social democratic consensus shifted to a modern form of economic liberalism (privatisation, deregulation etc) which both main parties (the Corbyn period excepted) have largely accepted, as evidenced by the cock-up Capita have made with the very much delayed payment of my wife's pension. After all, Blair was Thatcher's greatest achievement, and Cameron the heir to Blair.

Of course, that economic liberalism has at times gone along with illiberalism as might be expected with the Tory party, but the Labour Together version of the Labour Party has also been very illiberal by seeking to oust people with different opinions and clamping down on protests and the like.

Indeed, I like to joke that the People's Vote (by seeking to overturn a democratic vote) and people like James O'Brien (who castigates or abuses people who have views different to him) are evidence of what I call illiberal liberalism. Indeed, you see that latter behaviour frequently on TWTD.

Binface turns up to key constituencies anbd has "amusing" policies. He rarely gets a chance to speak,

He isn't for or against anything.

He is a bit of fun.

He is nothing at all like "boll**ks to Brexit"

I'm not talking about Binface's political persuasion (I can't believe I'm writing that sentence).

I'm talking about the libs' predilection for twee and self indulgent performative behaviour whilst showing no interest in material reality facing the country.

Of course. That was completely clear from your previous comment.

Binface has got nothing to do with your argument, so I've no idea why you brought him into it.

I'm not leaping to his defence. I'm trying to point out that Trump, Farage etc are SYMPTOMS not the cause.

And the collapse of liberalism and its inability to provide answers is driving that.

You always always do.

And no one has said other than that they are symptoms, though it is a vicious circle, they generate the conditions and division and then benefit from it.

I repeat it because if the lesson isn't learnt then things are going to get worse.

The binface thing is a great example. See 'Kamala is brat'. At some point if it is to revive itself, liberalism is going to have to re-engage with politics. And will need an analysis. It doesn't have one at the moment.

What on earth has Kamal got to do with Binface?

Binface is a silly comedy creation, designed in a very English way to poke fun at politics and politicians.

Farage, a genuinely dangerous and obnoxious populist politician, has thrown a tantrum and allowed his ego to put himself in a silly position. People are therefore keen to see him humiliated by the comedy creation. It reduces his power influence and reputation. That is a good thing.

It has literally nothing to do with Kamala, libs, centrist dads or anything else.

The bit about there not being a huge disconnect between liberals view (Kamala is brat, binface is highly amusing and the way you defeat Farage) and the ordinary public.

They have drifted into a land of make believe because it suits them. It ushered in Trump's second term in US and it will make Farage PM here unless they understand it.

I literally have no idea what you are trying to say at this point. Other than that you are constantly taking the positions which Nigel's voters would take!
