After Breakfast's bit yesterday it's rapidly turning into the Binface Broadcasting Corporation. It's just not fair, poor old Nigel is struggling to get proper media attention.

Nope. I actually hope Farage loses
Horrible charlatan
But Binface is a left wing “ comedy “ writer who works for the BBC.

As I have posted a few times now: Binface is Dadaism in practice. He is holding a mirror up to the absurdity of Farage's cunning stunt by responding with more absurdity. Whether it be claiming to come from another Galaxy (when every electoral candidate spins their local connections threadbare) engaging with trivialities like the 99 Flake (Pastiching the appeal to nostalgia of certain politicians with his implied question "Do you remember when 99s actually cost 99p?") or undermining the "Oh so serious" Today programme by referencing their structural mechanisms like the "pips", he is consciously subverting all of the tropes of a Great British Election.
And the people he was talking to both laughed. It takes a quick wit to not just answer meaningfully their questions, but to play them on a different level and render them absurd.
For contrast, look how Al Murray came across when he took on Farage in an Election. He didn't know whether to be serious or funny, ended up being neither, and it just looked like a personal attack on Farage by a media luvvie.
Binface turns up at every Election of note. It's not personal against the other candidates. And it's a victory for democracy, performance art and eccentricity that he usually loses his deposit.
He is now also up against "the racist woman's crumpet" Lawrence Fox and the Corbyn who Glastonbury crowds haven't got a song for yet.

If you find Count Binface hilarious, you also love the word 'cockwomble' and you definitely own the Led By Donkeys coffee table book.
"I own all of Otto English's books and I've got tickets to see Nish Kumar tonight. Anyway, that Count Binface, eh? Ha ha ha ha ha!"
I actually agree with BelsteadCav here.
The liberals aren't interested in argument or debate anymore. It was depressing to see the Today programme and Newsnight hosting huge Binface sections on their programmes and chortling along.
The country is in dire straits and there's no interest in anything of substance. There is a crisis in liberalism which has been exposed as empty nowadays.
The 'we need a grown up politics' seem to be the same lot now giving themselves a hernia over a Have I Got News For You level joke from a BBC comedy writer.
And there's a particular kind of smugness in the Richard Osman centrist Dad archetype which is incredibly dangerous I think.
Binface was perhaps vaguely amusing the first time. He's not going to win the by election. So what is going on?
I think the other parties will regret not running.
It's the People's Vote brigade again and I can't believe they are making the same mistake.
Is anyone prepared to do any serious analysis?

They have all said that if Farage is re-elected then they will run against him if the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner finds against him, Parliament confirms that with a lengthy suspension, and 10% of constituents request a recall.
It's not credible to spin this as anything other than a miscalculation by Farage, admittedly under stress and pressure, not least because it diverts his attention and resources away from the Manchester Mayor Election where he could have given Andy Burnham a bloody nose in his own backyard.

I don't think it is personally and the reason I don't is precisely because of the reaction if the media.
But it could be of course.
That's not the issue though. The issue is that those in the commentariat don't have any interest in the country outside the M25 anymore and haven't for some time.
It's alarming that there isn't any interest.

Ok, we disagree.
It's summer, and we are waiting for a new Prime Minister. Farage's broadcast to the nation was utterly bizarre and he comes across as someone who isn't handling stress very well at the moment. The By Election has several weeks to run and at the moment Binface is being used as a five minute light relief filler in a News output rightly dominated by the resumption of war in the Persian Gulf, continuing war in Ukraine, a massively destructive earthquake and outgoing and incoming Prime Ministers.

Let's also not forget that the BBC are legally bound to give candidates air time. As there are so few this time Binface is getting more than normal.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.
I watched last night's Newsnight (a programme which has already declined in quality after the BBC's decision to cut its investigative reporting and turn it into a short political chat show) with dismay.
These are febrile times for a reason. The planet is burning, Britain is politically dysfunctional and yet the commentariat amuse themselves with tittle tattle.
Binface once would have been a footnote. Now he's the story.
There's absolutely no interest in understanding what's happening and what has happened in Britain.
It's as if the London 2012 Olympics was the 'end of history' moment for the chattering classes in this country.
We're in trouble! And yet there's no curiosity at all. I find it all very unsettling.
