Hopefully some more dominoes fall for us this week transfer wise 09:32 - Jul 13 with 2044 viewstractorboy1978

I would imagine we would really like at least a couple more in before the training camp in Spain starts next week.

Sunderland who seem to be the working example had signed on permanent deals 6 players by this date.

Does the world cup matter now as most players are back to their clubs, not sure. Who knows.

Before I came on here this morning I checked the BBC's transfer page, this July is so slow they have photo thumbnails of deals at Tamworth and Wealdstone on the front page.

Poll: To make him more acceptable what should Gary O'Neill change his middle name to ?

I think this is the week where lots more happens. Just four left in the world cup and they are less likely to be on our watch list. The cogs are turning now. There are deals to be done.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, if we want to achieve survival this season then we need to be looking at world class talent. Players from France, Spain, England and Argentina should be the bare minimum for us, along with Premier League Experience of course.

Mate, we are not at that level. If we can cobble a side together this season that can give the bottom 6 a game I think that is the ceiling with the recruitment as it stands. It can take years and years to build up the scouting networks and the 'data' platforms.

So you are telling me we aren't signing Mbappe ?

Have some ambition ffs.

Not the first 11s sure, but maybe some of the squad players could do a job for us? Konate, Barcola, Watkins, Nico Williams etc?

€50m Nico Williams? That Nico Williams?
€80m for Barcola
€45m for Watkins
€60m for Konate

Then wages.

Makes sense in the moneyball game, more headroom. Mbappé at 27 already too old for our owners to consider...

Getting their players in early certainly didn’t do them any harm. I’d rather we wait and get the right players than rush and get worst ones, but we do need to balance that against starting to bed players in to give GON a fighting chance at the re-build (which I think we need, and MA has suggested there will ideally be a lot of activity, so it’s a reasonable assumption that quite a few will be coming in).

Got to aim high!

(For the avoidance of any doubt my original post and follow up were intended as a lightly satirical swipe at unrealistic fan expectations. Says a lot that it was taken seriously I suppose!)

I have said this now several times - There is a hell of a lot to do to put this all together, quite possibly too much.

Completely agree. Massively important some of the new signings get an opportunity to gel with the squad at the training camp. Less than six weeks now until kick off.

Wouldn’t be surprised if one or two depart this week (in addition to Slicker) as well.

Looking at the fixtures, if we can beat Sunderland and give ourselves a bit of time from there would be good. No one expects us to beat Man City and Liverpool so this period is a bit of a free hit BUT then we have Forest and Hull end of October which we need (if we want to stay up) to win, there can't be any excuses by say end of October.

Imagine things are really starting to accelerate from now. I did notice that by 13th July 2024, we already had four in the building with a fifth (Muric) ‘set to sign’ also. World Cup summer has pushed everything way back.

The World Cup undoubtedly delays things. I expect we have a few we are well down the line with and we are waiting for other deals to complete before we can finalise ours.

Barcola? Yeah, I'm absolutely certain he would, if we want to go bust :) hopefully that's the calibre of player we can be looking at in a few years time.
