What a sliding doors game for him against us last season. Scores a great lob ruled out for a soft foul on Greaves then hits the post before the rebound is tapped in by Stansfield. Fails to then score in his next 20 odd games. As we saw with Sam Parkin all those years ago - lack of goals at home destroy confidence and this really could have turned out differently for him.

But because he was around 6ft we kept hoofing it up to him which wasn’t his game. At the time, I did wonder what the hell they did in training to think that that was a good idea.

Scored ok away from PR, paticularly the qpr game at Loftus Rd. Far better striker then he's remembered for being. Just couldn't get the goals at home. Turned down Naarwidge for us, that'll do for me alone.

I remember him having a shed load of chances in possibly his first home game. If he had put one or two away, he would have been flying. Positionally he was very good. Didn't he have a bad leg break with us that pretty much finished his time with us. Just got the wrong kind of breaks with us. Could have been good.

You could say "Could have been good" about countless players who didn't work out for us though. Ultimately, they weren't good enough.

Joe signed him without ever seeing him play which didn’t help.

I think you're being very kind to Sam Parkin there, as in the air or to feet- he was devastatingly sh1te for us. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Sorry Matt, I have to disagree. He looked totally out of his depth at championship level in every way. Maybe I’m being harsh because it’s so long ago and my memory like everyone else’s distorts over time. But I thought after seeing him in his first home game ‘maybe he’ll improve’. Nerves n all that. He didn’t.
