Still lots to learn but he has such a silky touch and he can make some effortless incisive passes. We know if we can get him in pockets he has a fantastic shot on him as well. Really hope he keeps on developing. Seemed a bit more physical today as well.

He's a brilliant finisher. Hits a ball fantastically well. His goal for us so far have been more in the well taken category. But some of his goals for Norway u21s have been bangers and scored some good.ones.at.hisnlast club as well. Takes an excellent freekick but battle.on.if.numez on the pitch to get near them.

| Egeli on 07:38 - Jul 30 with 1924 views | Churchman | He was played out of position last season. Ok, needs must but he is clearly a more central player. Last season - new country, team, level, you name it. All at the age of 19. Watching him last season, he has the attributes the OP mentions. What he didn’t have last season was a settled team to play in, experience or, despite heart and battling qualities, the robustness that comes with age. He’s been written off by some on here and is well up there on the hate table, not just because he cost money. But I think played in the right position he might prove to be a real asset to us. | Egeli on 08:01 - Jul 30 with 1759 views | dirtyboy | I like to think i'm pretty measured in most instances, but I really do want Egeli to do well, so I'm probably viewing him differently to what I would normally when viewing a player, but last night, saw more glimpses of what he can offer than in many other games i've seen him in. When he has people around him moving, he's got a lovely weight of pass and awareness, he's just not suited at going past players like you need to when out wide. Long way to go though, but we'll see. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Another one just looking for someone to blame. So the manager did him no favours by giving him large amount of experience and development time at the age of 19, in his first season at a high level league? People need to take a look at the selves and find some patience, it's beyond ridiculous.

Patience? You won’t find much of that in this day and age. Instant is the only word that counts. I stand by what I said, in a new team last season we were short on that side until McAteer settled and Burns recovered. It really was needs must. For Egeli’s development, he got game time. He got exposed to higher level shthousery, battling Championship style and time in new surroundings that'll stand him in good stead.

Yes, which is still a rubbish opinion, i'd assume most of us including McKenna think his long term position is CAM. To say he did him no favours is just a dim comment, looking to be negative.

You may be one of the ones who think the outgoing boss was god and got everything bang on but in reality he didn't , maybe most things yes, Egeli was very poor much of the time and even discussions on here had many people saying he looked lost and out of his depth, the Boy was struggling out wide, only an idiot didn't see it, it's not even aimed at KM as a criticism more a fact that Egeli struggled with what he was being asked to do.
| Egeli on 10:02 - Jul 30 with 1221 views | gosblue | He needs to bulk out. He also needs to learn to put a foot in. If he doesn't go into tackles whole heartedly, he'll get himself and opponents injured. The exciting stuff he does quite well but he's got to toughen up. McAteer made that leap last season. | | | |
| Egeli on 10:22 - Jul 30 with 1122 views | _CliveBaker_ | I thought he was really poor last season tbh. He's a young lad and needs time, but I saw nothing to suggest he's remotely close to a premier league player. Very meek, struggled to influence games for the most part, I'm not sure what his USP is meant to be as he's not especially quick or strong, doesn't seem to have the ability to beat a man, crossing from wide areas was largely poor, and his finishing was average. Still has time on his side but as we sit here today I'm not convinced he will bring anything to the party this season. It felt to me like a lot of people seeing what they wanted to see with him, largely because he had an £18m (EIGHTEEN!) price tag around his neck. Had we signed him for £800k people would speak about him in the same terms as Al-Hamadi, accept he's nowhere near the level, and nobody would be expecting him to have a squad place with us this season. Might sound harsh but I just don't see what we've paid so much money for right now. I'd look to get him out on loan where he's going to start 40 games. | | | |

Cant disagree with that tbh ... He is SO young and now at a club at a level that I dont think he's ready for, yet. A season in CC with a decent club( who ?) is what's required as we cant afford to carry anyone in that 25 squad in terms of limited playing time, can we.

He might well get there, I just don't think he's ready and I don't think he really suits an O'Neil counter attacking side either. He'll want that raw pace and athleticism in forward areas. He's very young, he needs time and crucially he needs minutes. If we could do a deal that financially incentives a club to start him at Champ level with a January break clause and he can go and start 15 - 20 games in the next 5 months or so I think that's probably wise for his development in the near term.

I think I'd still rather he stays and develops and gets decent minutes off the bench, but with the conditions you have in your second para, maybe that's a good idea. Worst thing all round would be a loan with limited playing opportunities. Something still says to me he's one to develop in a high level squad though - it might be more about unlocking confidence and controlled aggression in him in a high level environment, rather than pure game time.

I just think he was played in the wrong position last season and then last night he comes on and still not in a position i think he needs to be in for me it's that 9 kane role, it might not be suited to town football, but i can't see him working here if it's not in a strikers role send out on loan imo with the agreement he plays as a striker.

Agree with that, Not a favourite, Mediocre at best, Atm a waste of money,, One McKenna and the recruitment team have got very wrong, Time is his saviour ATM due to his age, The three who down voted will see in the next two years when he's sold for a massive lost, [Post edited 30 Jul 16:35]

I don’t think he was ever going to slot in to a central role straight away and have an impact. Didn’t he get a try or two in the ten and look totally anonymous, or am I imagining that. It’s a bit like saying Mick did Mings no favours by playing him at left back. Younger players often develop out wide before moving more central.

I just think it must have had a bit on a detrimental effect on the Lads confidence TBH because he definitely got worse as the season progressed and he almost seemed to go into his shell, that is what I mean by doing him no favours. I get what you are saying with Mings but this Boy was coming with a record price tag from a Foreign country, Mings was bought for peanuts, no comparison for me.

Reluctantly I have to agree with you. I don't like criticising players but he really didn't show us his best version of himself did he. KM wouldn't have spunked £18, on him if he hadn't seen serious potential - but sadly he just didn't seem up to 'mens' football last season. He just didn;t show any youthful flair and innocence, - it was like he was afraid to make a mistake. And as his confidence drained so everything went sout. I really hope, for his sake, he can come back and prove everyone wrong and be a huge star. he's only young so lets give him the love!
