I can’t see any kind of schism happening. The top European leagues are far too commercially focused to make any credible counter threat to fifa. England and Spain would not be willing to surrender their positions of dominance in the club game and the money associated with that by leaving fifa.

I've no doubt that Infantine will stop at nothing to get his way, but start banning players from the UEFA leagues in their country is in FIFA, and who gets punished the most? I would say the country by losing their best players, so they won't be happy.
This must be stopped at all costs, who wants a World Cup every 2 years with 64/128 teams in, quarters instead of halves, in-your-face sponsorship from FIFA/Visa/McDonalds everywhere and crappy halftime 'shows'?

I think European *clubs* may be more set against it than that. One of the reasons UEFA is so against it is surely the threat to their commercial income. Fifa wants to load up the calendar with FiFA-arranged games - club world championship and bi-annual enlarged world cups have to be squeezed in somewhere and that might stop European clubs playing so many club games and possibly reduce income there. |  |
